<p>Job Description:</p> <p>This position is eligible for up to two days remote work per week</p> <p>BASIC FUNCTION:</p> <p>The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for overseeing the installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of Salve Regina's computer systems and data center including servers, applications, and operating systems and leading the activities of the system administrators while ensuring optimal system performance, reliability, and data integrity, involving complex troubleshooting, project management, and implementation of new technologies. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders. The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible to the Sr Director of Network Services & Chief Technology Architect and functions in accordance with university policies and procedures.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Oversee the design, implementation, configuration, and maintenance of the university's server infrastructure ensuring the availability and reliability of system services to meet the needs of faculty, staff, and students. </li><li>Managing user accounts, permissions, and access controls. </li><li>Monitoring and manage all servers (virtual and physical), system performance, storage environments in data centers on and off campus, as well as identifying and resolving issues proactively. </li><li>Responsible for the management of the on-campus and off-site data center environments. </li><li>Perform, monitor, and maintain backups of all data including the storage environment, MS O365, etc., using the latest technologies, disaster recovery procedures, and update as required and needed. </li><li>Oversee staff activities in support of systems and network service requirements and information security procedures, current and future, for the university in a comprehensive, high-quality and cost-effective manner. </li><li>Leading and mentoring system administrators to ensure that the technical skill level of the staff members is appropriate for assigned duties. </li><li>Assigning tasks and priorities for the team in alignment with organizational objectives. </li><li>Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team. </li><li>Coordinate with other university functional areas in the planning, budgeting, organizing, scheduling, and implementation of new university-wide or department specific systems and network services. </li><li>Coordinate with other university functional areas in the operations, maintenance, problem resolution, and central management of the university-wide or department specific data communications network services, including information security procedures. </li><li>Assist Sr. Director in the creation of annual systems and network services department budget and administering warranties and support service contracts. </li><li>Assist Sr. Director in the creation, testing, and enhancement of disaster recovery plan for the University network. </li><li>Responsible for ensuring that technical skill level of staff members (or contracted vendors) are appropriate for assigned duties. </li><li>Maintain and control an inventory and documentation relating to university network designs, operation procedures, backup/recovery procedures, system maintenance procedures, patch management procedures, etc. </li><li>Ensure the service of technical support requests by university parties are addressed as necessary in a timely, efficient, and professional manner. </li></ul> <p>OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Enforcing security policies and best practices. Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities. Implement security measures like intrusion detection and access controls. </li><li>Assist the Sr. Director and the Network Engineer, as necessary, to monitor and manage university standards and conventions related to all network components, such as routers, switches, firewalls, etc., authorized for use by the university. </li><li>Provide pertinent network identity management items (username, initial password, email account, administrative telephone number, etc.) to appropriate university constituencies in a timely manner. </li><li>Interact as appropriate with vendors and subcontractors for the support and enhancement of the university's systems, servers, and storage infrastructure and services. </li><li>Perform such other duties as assigned by the Sr Director of Network Technology & Chief Technology Architect. </li></ul> <p>LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:</p> <p>Where and whenever possible, the incumbent would obtain hardware, software, and management training to enhance his/her professional capability and capacity, and obtain licenses, certificates, etc. reflecting the accomplishment of such training.</p> <p>ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:</p> <p>The incumbent is not substantially exposed to known adverse environmental conditions.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>A minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field is required. </li><li>Minimum of five years of experience in the systems and network systems field, experience should include the planning, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network systems. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills </li><li>Strong proficiency in server operating systems (Windows Server) </li><li>Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., Vmware) </li><li>Experience in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) </li><li>Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Powershell) </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills at both the technical and non-technical levels. </li><li>Ability to provide exemplary service to our end-users and proactively seek opportunities for service improvement </li><li>Ability to maintain a positive attitude towards providing customer service and building relationships with users </li><li>Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks with the ability to follow each through to resolution </li><li>Ability to work effectively as a team member or independently as appropriate </li><li>Ability to collaborate with administrative users and Information Technologies staff members </li><li>Ability to provide reliable and dependable service during critical times of the University calendar </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Advanced degree in computer science, information technology, or related field is preferred. </li><li>More than five years of experience in the systems and network systems field, experience should include the planning, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network systems. </li><li>Relevant industry certifications (MCSE, CCNA, ITIL v4). </li><li>Proven experience as a system administrator, preferably in a leadership role. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Salve Regina University offers generous benefits to eligible employees including (waiting periods apply):</p> <ul> <li>health, dental and vision coverage available on the first of the month following date of hire </li><li>403(b) retirement plan through TIAA with employee and employer contributions as well as access to advising services </li><li>long-term disability coverage </li><li>employer-paid life and AD&D insurance </li><li>up to 100% free tuition at Salve for eligible employees and qualified dependents </li><li>robust wellness program and free access to the on-campus Fitness Center </li></ul> <p>Other available benefits include:</p> <ul> <li>supplemental life insurance for employees and dependents </li><li>supplemental insurance coverage through Aflac </li><li>Tuition Exchange scholarship program.
