<p>Essential Duties</p> <ol> <li>Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. </li></ol> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <p>Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.</p> <p>Background Check Requirements</p> <p>All candidates for employment will be subject to pre-employment background screening for this position, which may include motor vehicle, DOT certification, drug testing and credit checks based on the position description and job requirements. For additional information on the background check requirements and process visit "Learn about background checks" under the Applicant Support Resources section of Careers on the It's Your Yale website.</p> <p>Position Focus:</p> <p>We are actively recruiting a research assistant (RA) to support research in partnership with community-based organizations implementing strategies for the prevention and intervention of firearm injury, disability, and death.</p> <p>The applicant should possess subject knowledge related to violence prevention and community-based participatory research; should have some training or background in program evaluation and public health; and should be outstandingly organized and an excellent communicator. Other potential work includes collaboration on a variety of other injury prevention research projects and grants, including work with administrative datasets, technology-based interventions, and youth violence prevention.</p> <p>Working with Drs. Tony Tong, Megan Ranney, and Katrina Nelson, the research assistant will develop relationships with and provide program evaluation services in support of Connecticut violence intervention and prevention efforts(including community violence, domestic violence, and suicide prevention). The applicant should possess subject knowledge related to violence prevention and community-based participatory research; should have some training or background in program evaluation and public health; and should be outstandingly organized and an excellent communicator.</p> <p>Other potential work includes collaboration on a variety of other injury prevention research projects and grants, including work with administrative datasets, technology-based interventions, and youth violence prevention.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Quantitative and qualitative data collection, community engagement, and data analysis.</p> <p>Provides assistance on research and evaluation studies as per study guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).</p> <p>Supports participant follow-up tasks in line with established procedures to maintain high participant retention rates.</p> <p>Organizes, and/or maintains study databases. Responsible for data validation and quality control, data processing, and some data analysis.</p> <p>Performs literature reviews.</p> <p>Assists with preparation of presentations, community dissemination activities, and written manuscripts for publication.</p> <p>Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:</p> <p>Master's in health sciences, psychology, social work, and/or public health. Comfort discussing sensitive topics, including histories of violence and mental health. Familiarity with data collection software (e.g., REDCap), citation software (e.g., EndNote), and statistical software (e.g., Stata).
