<p>Reports to: Head of School</p> <p>General Description:</p> <p>The Mel King Academy Schools are totally separate, trauma sensitive therapeutic public day school for students with moderate to severe behavioral, emotional, and learning disabilities. The Elementary School serves students in grades K-5, ages 5-11. The Middle School serves students in grades 6-8, ages 11-15. The High School serves students in grades 8-12, ages 14-22.</p> <p>Boston Public School is currently seeking visionary and dynamic individuals to serve as educational leaders in our schools. We are seeking a highly motivated, exceptional, results oriented professional who is committed to high standards of performance and achievement by both students and educators.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Supervises Guidance Advisors/Special Needs, Vocational Teachers, Vocational Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Instructional Assistant Trainees and Student Support Team. Conducts classroom observations and completes performance evaluations. Meets regularly with clinical consultants, therapists and school psychologist. </li><li>As a member of the Administrative Leadership Team, under the direction of the Program Director and Headmaster, plans and implements: the Quality School Plan, Program Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, Program monitoring adjustment and development, and Staff training and development. </li><li>Implements compliance with regulations of the Boston Public Schools and the State Department of Education (specifically chapters 766, 622, 504, and 74), Mel King Academy school policies and Mel King Academy school staff and administrative guidelines. </li><li>Coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the work of the service team, which are interdisciplinary groups of staff serving specific self-contained classes. Their work includes admissions, assessment, teaching, counseling, behavior support, case management, record keeping and reporting, data analysis and placement. </li><li>Establishes and maintains class information such as records, past records, records of supervision, logs of activities, and records of hearings. </li><li>Compiles monthly suspension and assault reports, annual and monthly behavior support and attendance reports. </li><li>Provides technical assistance and direction to staff in the purchasing of services, supplies, materials and equipment. </li><li>Establishes and maintains working relationships with families/guardians and other service providers including DSS, DYS, DMH, MRC, BEST, the courts, private human services agencies and providers, and cooperating business institutions and agencies. </li><li>Researches and analyzes situations involving interpersonal conflict or failure of services. </li><li>Serves as a Hearing Officer. </li><li>Establishes and maintains constructive relationships with the faculty senate and student council. </li><li>Performs other duties as requested by the Program Director &/or Headmaster. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications Required:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in education, special education, vocational education, social work, or other related field. </li><li>Three (3) years experience successful teaching experience or related human services professional experience with special needs children or adolescents. </li><li>Ability to manage behavior of students, direct the work of staff, administrative problem-solving. </li><li>Successful administrative and/or supervisory experience in special education or human services. </li><li>Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators and parents. </li><li>Ability to establish a culturally competent atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image. </li><li>Licensure as a Principal/Assistant Principal or Supervisor/Director </li></ul> <p>Qualifications Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>ESL Licensed, SEI endorsed, RETELL trained </li><li>Experience as a school administrator. </li><li>Moderate special needs teaching license or license as L.S.W., L.C.S.W., or L.I.C.S.W., or certificate as a Psychologist and DESE License </li></ul> <p>Terms: BASAS, Group 7, 207 days, plus differential for required additional time and work</p> <p>Please refer to the salary Compensation section on the Career Site for more information on compensation.
