We invite you to bring your skills, judgment, and customer-focused mindset to our Utility Services team. In this field-based role within the Utility Business and Customer Support or Underground Utilities Department, you'll help keep essential services running by connecting, disconnecting, and maintaining water, gas, and electric utilities-often working independently while serving individual customers and responding to real-world needs.</p> <p>What you'll do:</p> <ul> <li>Connect and disconnect water, gas, and electric services for new and existing utility customers, including service interruptions for non-payment or administrative requests. </li><li>Read, test, and change out utility meters, turn on breakers, and perform minor repairs to electric meter bases as needed. </li><li>Respond promptly to gas leaks and support safe, reliable utility operations in the field. </li><li>Perform investigative work related to meter tampering or damage and represent the City in court when required. </li><li>Gather utility account information from customers and coordinate with Utility Accounts personnel to support accurate records. </li><li>Set water meters during nights, weekends, or holidays when necessary to maintain uninterrupted service. </li></ul> <p>For the complete job specification, listing essential duties and desirable qualifications, go to http://www.talgov.com/employment/hr-job-descriptions.aspx</p> <p>Minimum Training & Experience</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED; </li><li>One (1) year of hands-on experience reading, installing, connecting, disconnecting, repairing, fabricating or calibrating meters in a gas, water, or electric meter program. </li></ul> <p>NOTE: Directly related experience may be substituting on a year for year basis for the required education</p> <p>Necessary Special Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Valid Class E State driver's license (or equivalent) </li><li>Individuals in this classification are considered essential during emergencies and storm situations. They must be able to work up to 16 hours per day for extended periods and may be required to be away from their families. </li><li>Individuals in this classification must be able to serve on-call and are subject to working outside of their assigned shift/schedule to meet operational needs. </li></ul> <p>Salary Range</p> <p>$16.1262 to $43.7596/hourly.
