<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>Organization's Summary Statement:</p> <p>The Department of Education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in Special Education beginning in Fall 2025. This is a non-tenure-track position with primary teaching, student advising, and service responsibilities, and instruction is in person. The successful candidate will play a critical role in preparing educators to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities and contribute to the continuous development of the Special Education program.</p> <p>The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Special Education, including but not limited to Inclusive Practices, Behavioral Interventions, Assessment and Instruction for Students with Disabilities, and Differentiated Instruction. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, experience working with diverse student populations, and a collegial spirit.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ol> <li>Teaching: </li></ol> <ul> <li>Develop and deliver undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in Special </li></ul> <p>Education.</p> <ul> <li>Utilize effective, research-based teaching strategies, including online and </li></ul> <p>hybrid modalities.</p> <ul> <li>Teach core courses such as instructional reading strategies, classroom </li></ul> <p>management, assessment, inclusive practices for students with disabilities,</p> <p>and the process of language development.</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Student Advising and Mentorship: </li></ol> <ul> <li>Provide academic advising and career guidance to students in the Special </li></ul> <p>Education program.</p> <ul> <li>Support students in their field experiences, including practicum and student </li></ul> <p>teaching placements.</p> <ol start="3"> <li>Service and Program Support: </li></ol> <ul> <li>Participate in curriculum development and alignment with state and </li></ul> <p>national standards (e.g., CEC, AAQEP).</p> <ul> <li>Engage in departmental and university service, including committee work </li></ul> <p>and student support initiatives.</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with local schools, educational agencies, and community </li></ul> <p>organizations to enhance the Special Education program.</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in special education or a closely related field. </li><li>Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. </li><li>Experience in Special Education settings as a teacher, intervention </li></ul> <p>specialist, behavior analyst, or in other supportive roles that assist students</p> <p>with disabilities.</p> <p>Preferences:</p> <ul> <li>Doctorate in Special Education or a related field. </li><li>Experience teaching at the higher education level. </li><li>Familiarity with online and hybrid teaching formats. </li><li>Knowledge of teacher preparation program accreditation standards (CEC, </li></ul> <p>AAQEP).</p> <p>Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills. </li><li>Dedication to student success and inclusive education. </li><li>Ability to collaborate effectively in an academic environment. </li><li>Commitment to continuous professional development. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk. </li><li>May require lifting up to 25 lbs. </li><li>Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and </li></ul> <p>internally.</p> <ul> <li>Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. </li></ul> <p>Licenses/ Certifications:: N/A</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Required Application Materials: Qualified candidates must submit a letter detailing teaching philosophy and relevant experience, curriculum vitae, statement of research experience and interests, unofficial transcripts, and the names of three current professional references, including e-mail address and telephone number.
