<p>Overview</p> <p>The Waste Management and Prevention Division of the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and enthusiastic individual to fill an Environmental Analyst IV position in the Hazardous Materials Program. This position will work with an experienced and highly motivated technical team and will be responsible for completing environmental compliance inspections at facilities that are permitted to operate underground storage tank (UST) systems and that generate and manage hazardous waste. The Program currently regulates approximately 750 underground storage tank facilities, such as gas stations, and over 3,000 facilities that generate hazardous waste; these facilities are located throughout the State.</p> <p>This position is critically important to protect Vermont's environment and public health by preventing petroleum leaks from underground storage tanks and releases of hazardous materials to the environment. This position's primary responsibility is to complete independent inspections at regulated facilities and to evaluate facilities' compliance with State and Federal environmental rules. This position offers the opportunity to travel state-wide to a variety of Vermont businesses and the ability for the proper candidate to create their own schedule for field work.</p> <p>An ideal applicant will have:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of or experience with underground storage tank (UST) systems and operations </li><li>Experience in conducing environmental field work, both independently and as part of a team </li><li>Experience with and interest in environmental compliance and enforcement activities </li><li>Strong technical writing skills and effective verbal communication skills with diverse audiences </li><li>An interest in protecting Vermont's environment and public health </li><li>Basic knowledge of state and federal storage tanks and hazardous waste rules and regulations </li></ul> <p>The position will involve both field compliance work and office work.
