<p>This position performs a variety of duties necessary to carry out Adams County Code Compliance investigations and the issuance of citations, with frequent, direct contact with the public. It is a specialized role within the Neighborhood Services Code Compliance team, providing essential support to the Department of Community Safety and Well-Being. Responsibilities include serving citations and appearing in court as a subject matter expert for code violation cases. The position requires background clearance, specific training, and deputization by the Adams County Sheriff's Department. Use of a body camera is mandatory. The omission of specific duties does not necessarily exclude them from the position requirements.</p> <ul> <li>Identify, document, and enforce civil infractions and code compliance violations, including zoning and environmental complaints. </li><li>Investigate complaints, conduct inspections, and issue citations, notices, or summons to responsible parties. </li><li>Maintain professionalism and effective communication with the public during interactions and citation delivery. </li><li>Assess risk in field situations while providing excellent customer service. </li><li>Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with local codes and ordinances. </li><li>Prepare, file documentation, and testify in court as required. </li><li>Provide accurate information and respond to public inquiries regarding county codes, laws, and services. </li><li>Maintain clear records of inspections, compliance history, and perform related administrative and vehicle maintenance duties. </li><li>Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. </li><li>Compassionate Problem-Solver: Approaches challenges with professionalism, integrity, cultural humility, and resilience. </li><li>Collaborative Partner: Builds trust and positive relationships with staff, partners, and the community. </li><li>Adaptable Learner: Eager to grow technical and analytical skills; exercises sound judgment and discretion. </li><li>Analytical and Organized: Evaluates data, maintains records, manages time well, and prepares clear reports. </li><li>Positive Contributor: Supports an inclusive, respectful workplace where all employees feel valued. </li><li>Communicate effectively and professionally with the public, especially in high-stress situations, including explaining citations and practicing de-escalation techniques. </li><li>Maintain eligibility for deputization by the Adams County Sheriff's Department and comply with related safety and protocol requirements, including body camera use. </li><li>Demonstrate strong computer proficiency and use of software systems (MS Office, Accela, JD Edwards, E-Docs) and field tools (noise/light meters, iPads, cameras). </li><li>Maintain safety awareness, practice safe work habits, and participate in ongoing training including defensive tools and emergency response. </li><li>Conduct property research, read maps/street guides, understand county geography, and accurately gather ownership and contact information. </li></ul> <p>Experience: </p> <ul> <li>Minimum of two (2) years working with the public and interpreting rules, laws, or procedures, including experience investigating complaints or allegations. </li></ul> <p>Lived Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Lived experience in justice system involvement, poverty and homelessness, and/or behavioral health. </li><li>Up to one (1) year of demonstrated lived experience may count toward total required experience. </li></ul> <p>Education and Training: </p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED required. </li><li>Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred. </li><li>Up to one (1) year of work experience credit may be granted for post-secondary education based on full-time enrollment (transcript required). </li></ul> <p>License or Certificate: </p> <ul> <li>Valid Colorado driver's license required. </li><li>Must obtain Code Enforcement Officer Basic certification from the Colorado Association of Code Enforcement Officials within two (2) years of hire. </li></ul> <p>Background Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must pass a criminal background check and Sheriff's Office clearance including a Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA) exam and fingerprinting. </li></ul>
