<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Granby Public Schools is hiring a full-time Communications Specialist to lead district-wide communication and engagement efforts. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, this position is responsible for creating compelling content across platforms, strengthening the district's brand, and celebrating the achievements of our students, staff, and schools. We're looking for a strong writer, creative storyteller, and skilled communicator who is passionate about public education and community connection.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Communications Specialist supports the district's mission by leading all aspects of public communication and stakeholder engagement. This role is responsible for crafting clear, consistent, and timely messaging across various platforms to celebrate student and staff accomplishments, share critical updates, and promote transparency. Reporting to the Superintendent, the Communications Specialist serves as the primary liaison for media and public relations at both the district and school level, ensuring that the voice and vision of Granby Public Schools are communicated effectively to the broader community.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Develop, write, and distribute internal and external communications, including news articles, press releases, parent notices, and staff updates. </li><li>Manage and maintain district-wide branding, ensuring clarity, consistency, and cohesive visual and written content across all platforms and publications. </li><li>Create and publish engaging content for the district website and social media channels, including written, photo, and video materials. </li><li>Collaborate with schools and departments to highlight achievements, events, and initiatives. </li><li>Support emergency communications and the timely release of critical updates, including weather-related closings or delays. </li><li>Provide communications support for district initiatives, campaigns, and strategic priorities. </li><li>Monitor public perception and media coverage related to the district; advise on messaging when needed. </li><li>Develop marketing materials that support staff recruitment, student enrollment, and district initiatives. </li><li>Collaborate with school leaders to design and distribute engaging newsletters that highlight key events, achievements, and updates. </li><li>Perform other communications-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent. </li></ul> <p>Required Education, Experience, and Skills</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field preferred. </li><li>Strong writing, editing, and content creation skills across multiple media. </li><li>Proficiency in Google Workspace, Canva, and social media platforms. </li><li>Experience with photography, video editing, and desktop publishing preferred. </li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently. </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment in handling sensitive communications. </li><li>Familiarity with public education systems is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Salary Range: $78,000 - $86,000 annually</p> <p>Please include a cover letter, resume and three letters of recommendations.
