<p>To be assigned to Eastover Elementary School (.50FTE) and Villa Heights Elementary School (.50FTE)</p> <p>General Definition of Work</p> <p>The teacher, elementary general music, under moderate supervision, performs instructional work with limited decision-making discretion related to instructing classes in music, band, or orchestra and assists students in the development of instrumental techniques and music reading. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Salary/Status</p> <p>Certified Schedule/ Full-time, 10 months</p> <p>Reports To</p> <p>Principal</p> <p>Place of Work</p> <p>The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures </li><li>Assist school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner </li><li>Establish and maintain an orderly and supportive classroom environment in which students are engaged </li><li>Create a culture of effectiveness, by setting high standards and expectations for all students </li><li>Plan and implement a program of study in music that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of assigned students. Align instruction with the NC Essential Standards for Music and ensure a sequential course of study </li><li>Utilize a variety of methods and adapt music instruction to benefit all students </li><li>Integrate appropriate music technologies in their instruction </li><li>Incorporate a variety of methods to assess and analyze student work and what they have learned </li><li>Utilize a grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable by the school/district </li><li>Collaborate with other arts staff and assist classroom teachers in arts integration, alignment, and cross-coordination of the curriculum </li><li>Work with Materials Management Inventory System staff to maintain an accurate inventory of musical equipment. Work to keep all instruments in playing condition </li><li>Maintain necessary forms and records for instrumental music study </li><li>Self-initiate opportunities for personal professional development and growth </li><li>Communicate program needs to principal </li><li>Collaborate with principals, colleagues, and feeder school music staff to ensure continuity in enrollment and continuation of the program </li><li>Seek out alternative funding sources to supplement program needs </li><li>May coordinate field trips </li><li>Perform related work as assigned or required </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements </li><li>Knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards </li><li>Knowledge of Common Core and NC Essential Standards </li><li>Knowledge of North Carolina Testing Program in regards to End of Course Testing </li><li>Knowledge of General Statute 115C of the NC State Law concerning Public Education </li><li>Knowledge of CMS policies, rules, and regulations and the CMS Strategic Plan </li><li>Knowledge of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) </li><li>Knowledge of the principles, standards, and expectations of elementary music curriculum </li><li>Knowledge of how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for students </li><li>Knowledge of various learning styles, curriculum development, program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning </li><li>Skilled in communication, both verbal and written </li><li>Skilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace </li><li>Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs </li><li>Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships </li><li>Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums </li><li>Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business </li><li>Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement </li><li>Ability to recognize the various ways in which learning takes place and know appropriate levels of intellectual and social development of their students </li><li>Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Music Education </li><li>Master's Degree in Performance or Music Education preferred </li><li>Valid NC teaching license in assigned area </li><li>Equivalent combination of education and experience </li></ul>
