<p>Description</p> <p>The Department of Transportation is looking to hire Engineering Technician IVs in the Division of Construction for the Projects Section . This position is responsible for assisting the Resident Engineer on roadway projects to include documentation of project details, contractor communication and construction inspection.</p> <p>The starting salary will be between $21.73 - $26.08 hourly and it will be based on experience and qualifications. For more information regarding this program, please visithttps://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <p>Assist in preparing project cost estimates, inspecting and reviewing construction projects to ensure compliance with construction specifications, plans and procedures.</p> <p>Make minor structural and design changes as needed for conformance with established regulations.</p> <p>Assist in the review and interpretation of construction plans for field crews.</p> <p>Meet with, assess and inspect the work of contractors, consultants and company representatives and resolve issues.</p> <p>Perform a variety of routine Lab and field testing procedures on construction materials to ensure conformance with specifications and prepare reports of results obtained.</p> <p>Perform safety checks of work sites and observe work in progress for compliance with established work procedures.</p> <p>Work 12 hour emergency shifts to remove snow and ice.</p> <p>Perform other duties as required or assigned.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Requires college level coursework in engineering and mathematics, and five years of experience in roadway construction inspection or a related field. Requires a current, valid a driver's license.</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.</p> <p>The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.</p> <p>The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.</p> <p>All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
