<p>Overview</p> <p>Perioperative Registered Nurses/Circulators are clinically competent, registered, professional nurses who have demonstrated expertise in the perioperative field. They effectively deliver perioperative care to the surgical patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.</p> <p>Supervised by the Surgical Services Unit Charge Nurses and the Director of Surgical Services</p> <p>Functions and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Adherence to hospital/department policy</p> <p>>Maintains good attendance record.</p> <p>>Arrives to work punctually</p> <p>>Follows dress code</p> <p>>Observes confidentiality</p> <p>>Adheres to safety policies</p> <p>>Participates in continuing education</p> <p>>Follows department of nursing and hospital policy and procedures</p> <p>>Complies with surgery department policy and procedures</p> <p>>Complies with call and staffing assignments</p> <p>Patient Care</p> <p>>Uses the nursing process to plan and provide comprehensive safe patient care</p> <p>>Assesses the patient</p> <p>>Plans patient care</p> <p>>Documents patient care.</p> <p>>Collaborates with other members of the health care team in planning care</p> <p>>Educates and Instructs patient and family</p> <p>>Conscientiously and continuously applies nursing principles in patient care</p> <p>>Participates in performance improvement activities.</p> <p>Clinical Duties</p> <p>>Administers medications, blood and blood products according to policy and procedure in collaboration with anesthesia</p> <p>>Administers treatments, ensuring proper positioning, prepping, and safety of patient before, during, and after procedure.</p> <p>>Ensures sterile technique is mantained at all times, communicating with team and surgeons for patient safety.</p> <p>>Performs patient care, scrub or circulating duties as assigned. Adhering to ARON standards and recommendations.</p> <p>Care of Environment and equipment</p> <p>>Maintains unit</p> <p>>Maintains equipment</p> <p>Information processing and documentation</p> <p>>Communicates patient information</p> <p>>Documents information</p> <p>>Charges for equipment and supplies</p> <p>>Uses computer system efficiently</p> <p>Interpersonal skills</p> <p>>Communicates effectively</p> <p>>Maintains flexibility and adaptability</p> <p>>Supports unit teams</p> <p>>Resolves problems</p> <p>>Consistently meets the hospital's Journey to Service Excellence standards</p> <p>>Supports Customer Service</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>EDUCATION:</p> <p>Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing</p> <p>LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:</p> <p>Must possess a current license as a registered nurse in the state of Alabama</p> <p>Must have current BCLS certification</p> <p>Recommended ACLS and PALS certification</p>
