No VP Area Academic Affairs Department 00491 - Utah Presents Location Campus City Salt Lake City, UT Type of Recruitment External Posting Pay Rate Range $16.00 - $18.00 Close Date 05/26/2026 Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary</p> <p>UtahPresents is a non-profit, mission driven, multi-disciplinary presenter at the University of Utah which brings diverse artistic and cultural experiences to campus and the surrounding region.</p> <p>The Theatrical Technician is a part-time, on-call position fitting for anyone interested in providing backstage support to an exciting array of multi-disciplinary events such as dance, concerts, comedy, & opera.</p> <p>This role varies by project, with technicians serving as specialists or general stagehands in collaboration with full-time staff. Responsibilities are defined by skill and willingness to learn, but may include operating fly-rail, follow-spot, audio-video equipment, providing wardrobe support, stagehand labor, and working as a stage electrician. Technicians will work across these departments.</p> <p>Regarding qualifications, experience may include time spent in any professional community, educational or recreational arts production or live event field. Candidates should be enthusiastic about growing skills in new areas.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Candidates must be able to reliably perform the following essential duties:</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Arrive on time and prepared for all assigned shifts. </li><li>Perform tasks such as hanging soft goods, lighting focus, cable wrapping, and truck unloading/ loading. </li><li>Follow instructions and receive specific training as required for each event. Ask question and follow through on all assigned tasks. </li><li>Demonstrate effective communication skills and foster a collaborative team environment. </li><li>Adapt to a varied theatre schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. </li><li>Complete additional duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. </li><li>Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously during long shifts, including load-ins and load-outs. </li><li>Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach overhead, and perform other physically demanding tasks. </li><li>Ability to work in varied environments, including dark spaces, loud environments, and fluctuating temperatures. </li><li>Adequate vision and hearing to operate and evaluate production equipment safely. </li><li>Ability to respond quickly and effectively in high-pressure or emergency situations. </li><li>Ability to work flexible and extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. </li></ul> <p>This description covers core duties but is not exhaustive of all responsibilities associated with the role.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Two years of full time professional experience in one or all of the above listed skills technical theatrical skills or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required.</p> <p>Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.</p> <p>Preferences Special Instructions Summary</p> <p>To apply, please prepare a resume and cover letter.
