<p>Posted: May 9, 2025 Closed: May 31, 2025</p> <p>Employment Opportunity: Shrewsbury High School POSITION: Music Teacher and Choral Director 2025-2026 School Year</p> <p>Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Music Teacher and a Choral Director at Shrewsbury High School, effective for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate is a creative, enthusiastic, and organized music educator with strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. This position includes fostering an appreciation for music as part of general culture, teaching healthy and expressive vocal techniques, developing students' skills in music literacy, listening, and performance, and engaging students in a variety of non-performance-based electives. We are seeking candidates who bring a broad range of performance and non-performance experience and who are deeply committed to excellence, equity, and access for all learners both in and beyond the classroom. This teacher must be prepared for evening and community commitments for an additional stipend.</p> <p>Qualified candidates with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, class, and/or gender background and experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.</p> <p>Performance Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment. </li><li>Teaches skills in vocal music and music theory within the course. </li><li>Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted class time. </li><li>Provides a variety of instruction techniques to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. </li><li>Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional, contemporary, world cultures, and a variety of composers that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students. </li><li>Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment. </li><li>Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback. </li><li>Communicates with parents on student progress. </li><li>Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. </li><li>Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. </li><li>Works cooperatively with elementary and middle school music teachers to build a strong, sequential vocal program throughout the district. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications 1.Licensure as an "all levels" or Grades 5-12 Music teacher from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 2.Previous experience teaching choir at the middle or high school level. 3.Strong conducting skills, knowledge of vocal pedagogy, and choral literature. 4.Strong understanding of music technology and theatre. 5.Ability to teach healthy, lifelong vocal technique to high school students. 6.Ability to promote and expand involvement in the music program. 7.Ability to inspire and motivate students from all backgrounds and skill levels. 8.Proficiency in piano skills. 9.Experience in organizing and directing choir performances and community events. 10.Strong knowledge of high school student needs and programming 11.Exhibits the core values of Shrewsbury Public Schools 12.Works flexibly in a changing environment</p> <p>Application Process</p> <p>Individuals applying for this position need to submit the following: letter of application/cover letter; current resume; three current letters of reference, copy of applicable licenses and certifications, bachelor/master's unofficial transcripts (official will be required later).</p> <p>Please apply via www.schoolspring.com</p> <p>Please be prepared to also submit videos of recent performances and sample repertoire for a high school concert directly to Michael Lapomardo [mlapomardo@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us] upon request.</p> <p>The Shrewsbury Public Schools is an affirmative action employer, ensuring that its programs and facilities are accessible to the public.
