<p>Under the general direction and supervision of the Dean and Associate Dean, the Developmental Mathematics Instructor is responsible for providing instruction in various courses in a classroom, online, and/or distance learning environment. Teaching assignments for this position may include but are not limited to Math Fundamentals, Modular Math, Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Business Math. This full-time regular position is also responsible for obtaining instructional supplies and materials, assisting in the selection of textbooks, advising students, and working with the program and college committees.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>Provide Instruction in Assigned Subject Areas</p> <ul> <li>Provide instruction to students according to the objectives of each course assigned by employing diverse teaching methods appropriate to individual student needs to accommodate various levels of academic preparation. </li><li>Utilize a variety of instructional strategies that are appropriate to the setting, best practice, and individual student needs, and must include engaged learning techniques. </li><li>Use technology, such as graphing calculators and computers. </li></ul> <p>Provide For Student Evaluation and Record Keeping</p> <ul> <li>Develop a grading system for each class and maintain accurate records on student attendance, performance, and progress. </li><li>Participate in and/or provide data for department and general education assessment. </li></ul> <p>Remain Current in Events and Developments Related to Subject Areas</p> <ul> <li>Remain current in the field and with best practices in teaching and learning through self-study and participation in professional development such as in- service activities/training, conferences, workshops, and professional enrichment activities. </li><li>Contribute to department initiatives and support others will be expected and supported. </li></ul> <p>Participate in College and Program Activities and Committees:</p> <ul> <li>Attend, participate in, and support all department, division, and college activities and committees as requested and serve on assigned teams. </li><li>Contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of the College and department. </li></ul> <p>Serve as an Academic Advisor</p> <ul> <li>Serve as academic advisor to assigned students. Tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting students in developing academic plans, selecting and registering for courses in the prescribed course of study or area of interest. </li><li>Advise potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion. </li><li>Refer students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community. Explain college policies and procedures to students and complete all records and forms necessary. </li></ul> <p>Develop/Revise Course Curriculum and Educational Material</p> <ul> <li>In cooperation with other department faculty, develop and/or revise written course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies as required to keep the Math courses current with pedagogy, best practice, and new editions of texts and other educational resources. </li><li>Develop, revise, and maintain written classroom policies, grading structures, and strategies. </li></ul> <p>Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors)</p> <ul> <li>Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction. </li></ul> <p>Professional Development</p> <ul> <li>Faculty should work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan of professional development and improvement that includes examining and adapting one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to continuously improve and support student learning. </li></ul> <p>Perform Other College and Program Duties as Assigned:</p> <ul> <li>Assist in maintaining security for all College equipment and materials. Provide information and data to assist in the preparation of budgets, course schedules, short and long-range plans, and other required reports. </li><li>The instructor may have additional duties and responsibilities of supervising and coordinating the activities of the program and its faculty if assigned to be Program Director/Department Chair. The primary role of the Program Director/Department Chair is to ensure that, through personal and faculty efforts, students are able to achieve the objectives of the program. The Program Director reports to the Dean or Associate Dean of the Division. </li></ul> <p>Promote a Culture of Belonging</p> <p>Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Foster a community where each individual and their varied perspectives enrich the educational experience and create a safe and respectful environment. Support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in Math or Math Education with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in mathematics. </li><li>Two (2) years of teaching experience at secondary or post-secondary level that applies directly to area(s) of instructional responsibility. </li></ul> <p>Zone 5</p>
