<p>Description</p> <p>A Speech-Language Pathologist focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders in individuals. They develop and implement treatment plans, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and provide support to patients and their families. SLPs also educate patients and families about communication disorders and how to cope with them</p> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Establish short- and long-range plans based on student needs and consistent with District and state requirements. </li><li>Select materials to support learning objectives and meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and special needs. </li><li>Plan a therapy program for eligible students, including implementation and annual review of the Individual Education Plan (IEP). </li><li>Participate in school-level child study teams as appropriate. </li><li>Provide statistical information for program planning, such as FTE information, severity rating data, end-of-year reports, matriculation reports, screening results and other relevant data. </li><li>Schedule students for speech / language impaired program taking into account the total educational setting. </li><li>Order materials and supplies for program implementation as required. </li><li>Prepare and maintain audit files on all speech / language impaired students. </li><li>Maintain a positive, organized and safe learning environment. </li><li>Manage time, materials and equipment effectively. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures. </li><li>Identify students who have speech and/or language impairments through screening and/or diagnostic assessments. </li><li>Determine eligibility for speech / language impaired program. </li><li>Analyze / interpret results of screening or diagnostic assessment. </li><li>Conduct a therapy program for eligible students, including implementation and annual review of the Individual Education Plan (IEP). </li><li>Use appropriate materials, technology, and resources to help meet students' needs. </li><li>Use strategies appropriate for working with students from diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively involved in the learning process. </li><li>Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral or reporting action. </li><li>Assist the audiologist in conducting hearing screenings and in medical follow-up for students referred. </li><li>Consult with parents, teachers, principals and others as appropriate, concerning general guidelines of speech and language development and specifically about students enrolled in the program. </li><li>Interpret educational policies, programs and procedures relative to the speech / language program as required. </li><li>Provide information and/or Inservice to teachers, administrators and other school staff. </li><li>Engage in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills. </li><li>Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities. </li><li>Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters. </li><li>Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and other professionals. </li><li>Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events. </li><li>Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. </li><li>Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations. </li><li>Demonstrate support for the School district and its goals and priorities. </li><li>Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position. </li><li>On-site attendance is required for this position. </li></ul> <p>CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree and or Master's Degree from an accredited educational institution. </li><li>Certification in Speech / Language Pathology by FLDOE and/or licensure in Speech / Language Pathology by the state of Florida, Department of Health Professional Regulations. </li><li>Year experience </li><li>Completion of YMCA of the USA Child Abuse and Neglect class </li><li>Completion of the YMCA's Blood Borne Pathogens training </li><li>Additional training classes as recommended by the Supervisor. </li><li>Successfully meet the Association's policies on background screening. </li><li>Additional training classes as recommended by the Supervisor. </li><li>Valid driver's license. </li><li>Completion of CPR/FA Certifications </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <ul> <li>· The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
