<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Serves as a liaison, guide, and subject matter expert for local hazard mitigation planning in the state of South Carolina. Works with local governments to create hazard mitigation plans that meet or exceed federal requirements and guidance; engages proactively with local governments throughout the five-year mitigation planning cycle to keep hazard mitigation plans current and to ensure that they remain reflective of changing mitigation goals, program guidance, and priorities, including tracking plan adoption resolutions. Reviews local hazard mitigation plans promptly and thoroughly to provide feedback regarding compliance with federal requirements and state expectations. Contributes to update and maintenance of the State Hazard Mitigation Plan (SHMP) to reduce damage in future emergencies and to support implementation of federal mitigation grant programs. May review mitigation grant applications for compliance with federal hazard mitigation planning requirements. Coordinates to establish goals for investing in mitigation and infrastructure protection and creating more resilient communities. Attends meetings to advocate for and educate on the importance of investing in community risk reduction and in mitigation planning. Reports to the hazard mitigation manager. Coordinates with other state agencies involved in mitigation planning to ensure consistency of statewide hazard reduction goals. Develops and maintains mitigation planning reporting products. May incur occasional overnight travel or work irregular hours during emergencies.</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>Bachelor's degree and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in emergency planning, operational response, or multi-agency coordination. The ideal candidate will be organized, comfortable working with deadlines, and experienced with leading meetings and speaking publicly. Must have or be able to obtain a South Carolina driver's license.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>S.C. or IAEM Certified Emergency Manager (or other state equivalent) certification is preferred or will complete within three years. Track record of excellent written and oral communication skills.</p> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>A resume will not be accepted in lieu of an online South Carolina State Employment Application.
