<p>Position Overview</p> <p>Butler University is currently accepting applications for a full-time Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer Kowalski in the Department of Biological Sciences. The Kowalski lab uses a combination of genetics, behavior, molecular biology, biochemistry, fluorescence microscopy to study neuromuscular function and signaling regulation in the roundworm, Caenorhabditis elegans.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Perform general lab maintenance, including solution and media preparation </li><li>Cultivate and maintain C. elegans strains </li><li>Plan and execute experiments using genetics, molecular biology (PCR, restriction digest, gel electrophoresis, RNA extraction, qRT-PCR, CRISPR-based editing, DNA microinjections), basic biochemistry (immunoprecipitations, Western blotting), behavioral experiments, fluorescence microscopy, and quantitative image analysis </li><li>Assist with the training and management of undergraduate researchers in the lab </li><li>Help develop and maintain databases of worm, bacterial, and plasmid stocks </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in biology or related field required </li><li>Experience with Microsoft Excel </li><li>At least (2) years of previous research experience </li><li>Preferred experience working with C. elegans, molecular biology, biochemistry and/or fluorescence microscopy </li></ul> <p>This is a grant-funded position for up to three years that can start as early as August 2025.</p> <p>To Apply</p> <p>Applicants must submit:</p> <p>Completed Butler University Employment Application amd include:</p> <ul> <li>Resume/CV </li><li>Cover Letter </li></ul> <p>Application and completed support materials should be submitted via email to</p> <p>Dr. Jennifer Kowalski at jrkowals@butler.edu.</p> <p>Only completed applications will be considered.</p>
