Schools need guidance and resources to prepare students for college by meeting the expectations of the New Jersey State Learning Standards. The Newark Public Schools seeks an Instructional Coach to support the work of the Office of Teaching and Learning by driving curriculum specific initiatives and programs.</p> <p>This is an exciting opportunity for someone with expertise in specific curriculum areas and operations to make a lasting impact on Newark's students and families. This position may also include other duties as assigned.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The Instructional Coach will support the work of the Office of Teaching and Learning by:</p> <ul> <li>Implementing strategic initiatives that align with the district's vision for specific curriculum and instruction. </li><li>Spending a minimum of 75% of work time in the school classroom providing instructional support to teachers, modeling best practices, and co-teaching lessons. </li><li>Providing coaching and mentoring to teachers to enhance their instructional practices, including providing feedback on lesson plans, instructional strategies, and classroom management. </li><li>Designing and delivering professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance their knowledge and skills in instructional design, delivery, and assessment. </li><li>Supporting the implementation of curriculum, instructional resources, and professional development in curriculum specific areas. </li><li>Assisting in assessing the educational needs of schools and identifying ways the Office of Teaching and Learning can help meet those needs. </li><li>Facilitating the acquisition of resources for schools related to curriculum specific initiatives. </li><li>Collaborating with the Assistant Superintendent and Directors for Teaching and Learning and other applicable district offices and departments to develop and implement programs that meet the goals of the Office of Teaching and Learning. </li><li>Assisting in planning and managing the implementation of the district's summer school programs with focus on specific curriculum areas during the summer season. </li><li>Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and/or Director(s) of Teaching and Learning </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:</p> <p>The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:</p> <ul> <li>A passionate belief that all students can achieve at high levels. </li><li>Deep knowledge of effective policies, strategies, and resources that promote student achievement in specific curriculum areas. </li><li>Personal accountability for serving all students and ensuring their success. </li><li>Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to: (a) work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at all levels, including district personnel, students, families, communities, and advocacy groups; (b) build consensus and solicit feedback; (c) maintain positive relationships and build strong coalitions of support; and (d) navigate political structures and systems effectively. </li><li>Strong goal orientation and a focus on results, thriving in achievement-oriented and fast-paced environments. </li><li>Outstanding critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop innovative solutions. </li><li>Excellent project management and execution skills, with the ability to balance strategic goals with detailed action steps. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>New Jersey Permanent Teacher Certificate in Specific Content/Curriculum area. </li><li>Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience. </li><li>Master's Degree in Education or a related field preferred. </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Director or Assistant Superintendent of the Office of Teaching and Learning</p> <p>SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION:</p> <p>Salary: $74,063 to $129,952 (for 2025-2026 SY)</p> <p>Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months</p> <p>Union Affiliation: Newark Teachers Union (NTU)</p> <p>HOW TO APPLY: Newark Board of Education only accepts electronic applications.</p> <p>THE NEWARK BOARD OF EDUCATION IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYEE</p>
