<p>Provide exceptional care to the grounds to attract guests and add to the aesthetic value of the Wheeling Park Commission.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Operate equipment for maintenance of roads and grounds care such as: blowers and vacuums, chainsaws, drill and auger, power trimmers and power-edgers, utility carts, tractors, lawnmowers, spreaders, tillers, snow blowers, log splitter, plows, push cart or wheelbarrow, trailers, and standard one ton dump truck. </li><li>Able to use hand tools for maintenance of grounds such as: shovel, trowel, rake, cultivator, posthole digger, broom, axe, forks, pruners, loppers and shears. </li><li>Plant, water, and maintain turf, flowers, hanging baskets, trees, and shrubs. </li><li>Cuts lawns, trims and edges around walks, plant beds, steps, fences, and walls. </li><li>Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth and remove damaged leaves, branches, or stems. </li><li>Remove weeds, cultivate and mulch plant beds. </li><li>Remove snow from walks, roads and driveways; spread chemicals on public passageways to prevent ice buildup. </li><li>Keep grounds, drainage ditches, and culverts free of litter and debris (including dead animals). </li><li>Where designated, collect garbage and debris from Park Commission facilities that do not have outside garbage service. </li><li>Maintain clearance; make minor repairs, and paint fences and gates. </li><li>Perform minor maintenance and repairs to equipment, facilities, benches, and trash receptacles. </li><li>Inspect and maintain play apparatus. </li><li>Perform minor repairs to roadways. </li><li>Split, stack, and deliver firewood. </li><li>Assist in set-ups for special events. </li><li>Interact with the public with a cheerful and positive attitude, solve guest problems and complaints in a proper manner, and maintain harmonious working relationships with fellow employees. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE</p> <p>High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.</p>
