<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Director of Accessibility Services is responsible for coordinating the delivery of accommodations and support services to students with a range of disabilities defined under the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. The Director of Accessibility Services provides ongoing support and advocacy for all students with disabilities, both in and outside of the classroom. The Director is directly responsible for receiving and evaluating documentation to determine if it indicates and substantiates a condition that qualifies as a disability under applicable disability law and determine applicable disability support and reasonable accommodations. The position works closely with other offices including but not limited to Residential Life, Academic Support Services, online learning/instructional design, IT, Advising, Financial Aid and the Office of Multicultural Affairs. The Director is responsible for researching and remaining current on issues related to disability support services in postsecondary education settings along with on-going student, faculty and staff programming on topics related to accessibility. This position supervises the Accessibility Associate, test proctors, and note takers and manages relationships with applicable third-party vendors (such as interpreter services).</p> <p>Essential Job Functions:</p> <p>The following examples of duties illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position, but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position.</p> <ul> <li>Serve as the University contact person for all disability related student issues including students enrolled through Cambridge College programs. </li><li>Direct and supervise all facets of providing reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities, such as note taking, exam accommodations, accessible housing requests, assistive technology , and requests for service or support animals. </li><li>Maintain appropriate and complete documentation, records, and statistics with respect to services provided. </li><li>Provide strategic guidance in order to guarantee appropriate accessibility for other campus populations, including campus visitors (coordinated with and implemented by academic departments and admissions, physical accessibility (coordinated with and implemented by Facilities), and technological accessibility (accessible Web design, principles of Universal Design and understanding of accessibility issues related to emerging web technologies, multimedia and learning management systems). Make recommendations for necessary changes to adapt to the needs of the population. </li><li>Establish documentation standards for students with disabilities in accordance with the Association of Higher Education and Disabilities (AHEAD) guidelines and as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, 1990; ADAAA 2008) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. </li><li>Review and interpret complex evaluations and disability documentation to determine if it indicates and substantiates a condition that qualifies as a disability under applicable disability law. </li><li>Determine and ensure the implementation of appropriate and reasonable accommodations for qualified students with disabilities in cooperation with other campus departments and constituents. Monitor, adjust, and evaluate on an ongoing basis individual accommodations that have been implemented. </li><li>Oversee the coordination, scheduling and proctoring of exams for students who are approved for test taking accommodations on the Longmeadow and East Longmeadow campuses, as well as online only students. </li><li>Consult with staff and faculty involved in the implementation of accommodations for students with disabilities. </li><li>Advise leadership on complex matters related to accommodations and support services for students with disabilities. </li><li>Represent Accessibility Services on University committees. Attend department meetings as needed to act as a point of contact for accessibility related needs. </li><li>Develop and maintain student accessibility policies and procedures. </li><li>Maintain and update software, databases, and technologies used to deliver accommodations to students with disabilities (AIM). </li><li>Compile student data and statistics reflecting progress, trends, and use of services and recommendations for future initiatives. </li><li>Facilitate a student-centered approach within the department. Lead the department to identify and implement short and long term goals. </li><li>Remain current with changing assistive technologies related to disability accommodations; facilitate assistive technology training and use by students with disabilities. </li><li>Develop and implement outreach and training on accessibility and accommodations for faculty and staff. Clarifies and communicates the accessibility requirements for all university courses. Serves as the first point-of-contact for questions about implementing changes. </li><li>May serve as advisor to student organizations which promote institution-wide understanding of disability issues. </li><li>Maintain professional knowledge base and remain current with ADA legislation and case law. </li><li>Attend trainings as required. </li><li>Facilitate training for Accessibility Services staff as needed. </li><li>Maintain departmental website. </li><li>Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the University. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Accessibility Associate </li><li>Supervise and manage Test Proctors who coordinate and schedule testing for students with accommodations in the Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapy Program and other programs. </li><li>Identify, hire, train and manage Work-Study Note-takers in efforts to implement note-taking services for students with accommodations each semester. </li><li>Additional University and/or student staff as assigned. </li><li>Others as assigned. </li></ul> <p>OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>If you operate a University owned, leased or personal vehicle at any time while performing your duties you must follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Operations Manual. You must have a valid driver's license and must successfully pass the online safe Driving Course and driving record check at time of hire and annually thereafter. Additionally, you must report any driving offense, on or off company time, which causes a loss, suspension, or any other change in your license status. You must report this change within one business day of the offense. You can report this change to the Human Resource Department or your direct supervisor. Failure to do so can lead to disciplinary action, up to and including terminations.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in special education or special education administration, school psychology, rehabilitation counseling, higher education, or a related field. </li><li>Ability to interpret psycho-educational evaluations and other disability documentation and determine eligibility for disability services. </li><li>Minimum of three to five years of experience in evaluating the needs of students with disabilities in higher education and providing reasonable accommodations. </li><li>In-depth knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 & 2008 (ADA). </li><li>Familiar with technology accessibility laws and standards. </li><li>Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as it relates to post-secondary education. </li><li>Familiarity with assistive technology for persons with disabilities. </li><li>Appreciation of and commitment to the mission and goals of Bay Path University and the role of the Coordinator in achieving those goals. </li><li>Willingness to engage students. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with people having a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences different from ones' own. </li><li>Self-starter with a strong work ethic. </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures. </li><li>Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and within FERPA and HIPAA guidelines. </li><li>All new employees must complete the FERPA, Anti-Harassment, and any other required online trainings within 15 days of employment. </li><li>General knowledge of the University's mission, purpose and goals and the role this position plays in achieving those goals. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Bay Path University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.</p> <p>Application Instructions:</p> <p>All qualified applicants for this position should attach a cover letter, resume / curriculum vitae, and any other relevant information pertaining to this position and your candidacy.
