<p>Title:</p> <p>Mathematics Instructor</p> <p>Department:</p> <p>NJ GEARUP / College Bound / UBELLs</p> <p>Reports To:</p> <p>Director NJ Gear UP/College Bound</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Staff</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The position of Program Instructor (Hourly) of Mathematics for Middle and/or High School means an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of the New Jersey GEAR UP/College Bound program. Acceptance of this position carries certain specific responsibilities in addition to those outlined in the general job description. This requisition represents 4-6 Instructors depending on hours available and need. The program operates year-round during the Academic Year (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions (July-Mid August). Fall and Spring Sessions are Monday thru Thursday (Occasional Fridays) from 8:00 am until 2:00pm and/or 3:00pm until 5:00pm. Saturday Sessions are 20 sessions during the Academic Year from 8:00 am to 3:00 p.m. Note: Academic Year weekday school hours are adjusted as needed per school. Summer Session is currently up to six (6) weeks, Monday thru Thursday, from 8:30am until 3:00 pm with occasional Saturday events.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Provides relevant grade level academic classes to prepare students for success in high school and college. </li><li>Helps students to integrate reading and writing skills. </li><li>Helps facilitate students' communicative, study and time management skills as well as assist in the development of test taking strategies. </li><li>Helps students to reduce their fear of any subject and help facilitate their problem solving and critical thinking abilities. </li><li>Helps students to develop mathematical skills in preparation for the state mandated tests, i.e., PARCC, PSAT, SAT/ACT (actual tests may vary). </li><li>Attends all staff development and training session. </li><li>Submits typed lesson plans on time. </li><li>Helps to develop and implement the New Jersey GEAR UP/College Bound Curriculum based on the New Jersey Common Core Standards for the program. </li><li>Creates a learning environment that will facilitate the desire to learn and help students to gain self-motivation for self-improvement. </li><li>Maintains accurate academic records and files. </li><li>Assists in the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement tests. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Prerequisite Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Certification for core subject areas of Mathematics. </li><li>Experience with minority and disadvantaged student is helpful. </li><li>At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an </li></ul> <p>equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position</p> <p>Salary Information:</p> <p>In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate for this position is $40.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
