<p>Job Title: Exceptional Children Teacher - Adapted Curriculum (Extended Content Standards (ECS)</p> <p>Reports to: Principal</p> <p>Term of Employment: 10 months</p> <p>Salary: Teacher Salary Schedule</p> <p>FLSA Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Special Education or other qualifying area </li><li>North Carolina teaching license or ability to acquire within timeline and guidelines set forth by the North Carolina Department of Instruction </li><li>Must become initially certified in nonviolent crisis intervention (de-escalation and physical restraint) and maintain that certification through the proper renewal process (adhering to all timelines) </li></ul> <p>Job description: Under general supervision, provides special education services to students identified as having a disability in accordance with district, state and federal regulations. Work involves developing and implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) in separate classroom settings. Responsible for developing lesson plans, adapting and modifying materials, designing activities to assist students with disabilities in the development of appropriate academic, functional, behavioral, and social skills to meet their IEP goals and objectives. Maintains a highly structured environment conducive to learning. Students following an adapted curriculum typically require more consistent and repetitive daily routines.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Develops and implements an instructional plan which corresponds with the school and district-wide curricular goals and the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). </li><li>Responsible for the development of effective IEP for a student with disabilities; implements the IEP; and utilizes formal and informal diagnostic assessment information obtained to determine student needs and services. </li><li>Utilizes a variety of teaching methods in order for students to demonstrate their knowledge to make progress towards the NC Extended Content Standards and their Individualized Education Program. </li><li>Provides direct, specially designed services while employing a variety of teaching methods </li><li>Collects and maintains documented evidence of student progress (progress monitoring) such as data collection, formal and informal assessment of skills, student work, etc. </li><li>Monitors student behavior; maintains discipline in the classroom; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; and teaches students appropriate behavior strategies. </li><li>Assists the student with their personal and self-help needs, such as eating, toileting and other essential tasks that the student is not able to perform. </li><li>Communicates with parents regarding their child's educational progress through oral and written progress reports. </li><li>Acts as a case manager for all assigned students. </li><li>Consults with school support professionals and parents to best meet the student's needs. </li><li>Maintains accurate and timely student records in accordance with the North Carolina's Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities. </li><li>Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner. </li><li>Interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents and the community. </li><li>Follows a plan for professional growth and learning and demonstrates evidence of growth. </li><li>Provides directives for teacher assistant(s) assigned to the class. </li><li>Performs other related work, as required. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to maintain confidentiality. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by the work assignments. </li><li>Ability to interact and deal with the public in a professional manner. </li><li>Ability to motivate students. </li><li>Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students. </li><li>Ability to use computer/laptop and a variety of programs and platforms. </li></ul> <p>Physical and Cognitive Requirements:</p> <p>The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job</p> <p>classification within Anson County Schools.</p> <p>Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20</p> <p>pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move</p> <p>objects.</p> <p>Must be able to:</p> <ul> <li>walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, kneel, crouch, key requiring repetitive motions </li><li>use visual acuity in preparing and analyzing written or computer data </li><li>visually inspect small defects and/or small parts </li><li>operate a variety of machines, motor vehicles, hand, and job specific equipment and tools </li><li>determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work </li><li>observe general surroundings and activities </li><li>communicate by spoken word to express or exchange ideas and convey detailed or important instructions to others accurately or quickly </li><li>safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized </li></ul> <p>personal protective equipment</p> <ul> <li>communicate effectively orally and in writing </li><li>establish positive relationships with students </li><li>deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions </li><li>perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with </li></ul> <p>emergency situations</p> <ul> <li>work with students with disabilities </li><li>lift students of various weights independently and with shared responsibility </li></ul>
