<p>The Iron Worker is responsible for all of the duties listed, but not limited to the following: raise, place, and unite iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks; may erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.</p> <p>Required Tasks</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate, schedule, train and assign work to Iron Worker Apprentices. </li><li>Direct and design layout and fabrication of ornamental iron work </li><li>Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of materials required. </li><li>Analyze defects and makes repairs to all steel, aluminum and metal equipment stairs, doors, jail doors, ramps, and ladders </li><li>Assemble all components of boilers using hand tools, power tools, or welding equipment. </li><li>Install and maintenance of steel roll up, overhead and garage doors. </li><li>Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors. Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place. </li><li>Fasten structural steel members to hoist cables, using chains, cables, or rope. </li><li>Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels. </li><li>Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment. </li><li>Erect metal or precast concrete components or structures, such as buildings, bridges, dams, dowers, storage tanks, fences, or highway guard rails. </li><li>Force structural steel members into final positions, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools. </li><li>Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks to move heavy equipment or materials. </li><li>Fabricate metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or instruction from supervisors. </li><li>Dismantle structures or equipment. </li><li>Perform additional duties as needed. </li></ul> <p>Educational/Experience Requirements</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Valid State of Michigan Operators License </li><li>1" unlimited certified welder </li><li>Candidates considered for placement in this classification will be subject to multiple Criminal background investigations. </li><li>Three years of commercial Iron Worker experience </li></ul> <p>THIS IS A SECOND SHIFT POSITION. MONDAY-FRIDAY</p> <ul> <li>2nd Shift: 3:00pm - 11:30am </li></ul>
