<p>Certified School Nurse JobID: 514</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Student Support Services/School Nurse</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>5/1/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>District</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>POSITION: School Nurse</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Requires a BS in Nursing, licensed as a New Jersey Registered Nurse </li><li>Maintains current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of New Jersey </li><li>A minimum of two years of nursing experience and CPR certification </li></ul> <p>PRIMARY FUNCTION: The school nurse strengthens and facilitates the educational process by modifying or removing health related barriers to learning in individual students and by promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff. The nurse assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and/or referral activities. The nurse serves as a direct link between the school physician, the school district and students and/or their families for health care issues. The nurse provides relevant instruction, counseling and guidance to students, parents and staff concerning health related issues; upholds professional standards, the Nurse Practice Act, and applicable state and local statues for school nursing practice; and adheres to district policies and administrative guidelines.</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Certified School Nurse/Supervisor and/or Chief Medical Director</p> <p>MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Develops plans for student care based on assessment, interventions and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care </li><li>Serves as consultant with other school professionals </li><li>Provides health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings </li><li>Monitors immunizations, manages communicable diseases, and assesses the school environment as to prevent injury and ensure safety </li><li>Oversees infection control measures </li><li>Actively participates in school safety plans that address school violence, bullying and emergencies that may occur at school </li><li>Oversees medication administration, healthcare procedures and the development of healthcare plans to comply with New Jersey State guidelines for screening </li><li>Makes decisions related to the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance </li><li>Provides health advice to school education teams, such as the Committee on Special Education and the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) team </li><li>Provides written reports as required to the district and county/state agencies </li><li>Collects and records information about the health and developmental status of the student in a systematic and continuous manner. This information is to include but is not limited to: immunization data and health screenings as mandated by state statute and board policy </li><li>Uses health data to determine a nursing diagnosis for a student when appropriate. Makes referrals as needed according to established district standards </li><li>Develops a nursing care plan with specific goals and interventions delineating school nursing actions unique to the student's needs when appropriate </li><li>Intervenes as guided by the nursing care plan to implement nursing actions in order to revise the database, nursing diagnosis, and nursing care plan and to determine the progress made toward goal achievement. Revises plan when indicated. </li><li>Assists families with locating outside care and obtaining health insurance </li><li>Coverage for field trips if agency nurse cannot be retained </li><li>Coverage for other nurses as needed </li><li>Coverage for Wellness Center as needed </li><li>Hours Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:00 subject to change if coverage is needed at Wellness Center, not to be in excess of 40 hours per week, and lunch break every day for 30 minutes. </li><li>Attend staff meetings 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 8:15 am </li></ul> <p>HEALTH EDUCATION:</p> <ul> <li>Collaborates with other professionals, school personnel, parents and caregivers in planning to assure quality of health care provided to students </li><li>Assist students, families and school personnel to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education on an individual and group basis. Serves as a member on the health education curriculum committee. </li><li>Assumes responsibility for continuing education and professional development and contributes to the professional growth of others. </li><li>Participates with others in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation school health and community services. Serves on committees within the school district as needed </li><li>Collaborates with school administrators and other pertinent personnel in assessing and improving the physical, social and emotional climate of the school </li><li>Collaborates with members of the community in delivery of health and social services, and utilizes knowledge of community health systems and resources to function as a school-community liaison </li></ul> <p>ADMINISTRATION:</p> <ul> <li>Performs administrative duties such as scheduling visits, referral intake, charting, medical record keeping and maintenance, statistical data collection, coordination with team members, and program evaluation </li><li>Engages in reach and evaluation of school health services to act as a change agent for school health programs and school nursing practices </li><li>Participates in a leading role in the LEAP's School Wellness Committee </li><li>Provides consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district. </li><li>Responsible for completing accident reports for staff and following the directions completely on the form </li><li>Maintains medical/office supplies in the nurse's office </li></ul> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month contracted position. Salary, hours & work year to be determined by Board in consultation with Lead Person (Chief Learning Officer).</p> <p>EVALUATION: Annually according to state statute and rule and Board policy.</p> <p>SALARY GRADE/RANGE:</p> <p>STATUS: Non-Exempt</p>
