<p>Assistant Professor of Art + Design</p> <p>Start Date: August 2025</p> <p>Hiring Statement: The Department of Visual, Interactive and Performing Arts at Carroll University seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Art + Design who possess sophisticated graphic design and digital media skills as well as a demonstrated respect for traditional, analog media, and fine arts skills.</p> <p>The successful candidate will have the ability to teach graphic design courses in at least in three of the following advanced areas: videography, animation, web, UI and UX design, typography, digital photography, art and design history, emerging digital media technologies, and/or related disciplines that combine digital with analog learning experiences and visual storytelling. Although not required, additional desirable areas of expertise could include analog photography practices, digital illustration, game design, and 3D modeling. The successful applicant will approach the art and design classroom broadly, as an environment that promotes inter-disciplinary thinking and innovation.</p> <p>The new Assistant Professor of Art + Design will teach within multiple visual arts programs as an expert in design thinking, foundations, fine art, professional preparation, and multidisciplinary technology - specializing in graphic design and/or time-based media. This role will elevate the student learning experience, aid in the retention of innovative artists and designers, and develop a student-centric, cross-disciplinary environment within visual arts classrooms. Interest in developing unified, foundational experiences and overlapping curriculum across the Visual, Interactive and Performing Arts is important. Industry experience in the development of client-based partnerships and a robust internship program is desirable.</p> <p>The teaching load for instructional tenure-track faculty is eight courses annually (4/4). The job breakdown is 80% teaching and 20% service, which includes academic advising at the programmatic level. Scholarship is not required. (Scholarship is not required for this position.) </li><li>Ability to teach Graphic Design courses in at least in three of the following advanced areas: videography, animation, web, UI and UX design, typography, digital photography, art and design history, emerging digital media technologies, and/or related disciplines that combine digital with analog learning experiences and visual storytelling </li><li>Technical expertise with industry-standard software </li><li>Demonstrated ability to provide valuable service to the department and greater institution which will include curriculum/course development, advising, and programmatic assessment </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Teach courses as assigned (foundational through advanced) in graphic design and related areas</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate on program and curriculum development in the Visual Arts, including curating client-based projects and partnerships and developing interdisciplinary courses that include students from various areas of study like business, STEAM, health care, K-12 education, etc.</p> </li><li> <p>Engage in meaningful service at the departmental, college, and university level that supports strategic goals and priorities, commensurate to rank</p> </li><li> <p>Perform additional duties that include academic advising, participation in student scholarship and award decisions, and additional departmental and university service</p> </li><li> <p>Appointee may also contribute to the general education program at Carroll by teaching courses within Carroll's general education program</p> </li></ol> <p>Rank and Salary: Instructional Tenure Track, 4/4 load. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.</p> <p>The Program: The Art + Design Program is situated within the Department of Visual, Interactive and Performing Arts, in the College of Arts and Sciences. There are five full-time faculty within the Art + Design Program, which include areas of specialization in Fine Art, Art Education, and Graphic Design, and a separate major in Video Game Design. Visual Arts Programs provide course that fulfill various levels of general education requirements, as well as supporting areas on campus with its courses and curriculum, like the School of Business, Communication Program, the Film and Television Minor, etc.</p> <p>The Department: The Department of Visual, Interactive and Performing Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences includes majors in Art + Design, Music, Music Education, Music Therapy, and Theatre, and minors in Arts Management, Art, Graphic Design, Film & Television, Music, Photography, Theatre, Dance, and Musical Theatre.</p> <p>The College: The College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate programs through seven departments - Communication and Sociology; Computational and Physical Sciences; Education; English, Modern Languages and Philosophy; History, Political Sciences and Religious Studies; Life Sciences; and Visual, Interactive and Performing Arts.</p> <p>Carroll University: Founded in 1846, Carroll University is an independent, co-educational comprehensive institution grounded in the liberal arts tradition. The Pioneer Core general education curriculum has a strong emphasis on developing intercultural awareness.
