<p>Position Title: Drama/Theatre Teacher</p> <p>School: Guilford Preparatory Academy</p> <p>Location: Greensboro, NC</p> <p>Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-Month</p> <p>About Our School</p> <p>Guilford Preparatory Academy is a K-8 public charter school dedicated to academic achievement, character development, and enriching learning experiences. The performing arts are an essential component of our whole-child approach, and we strive to cultivate creativity, communication, and confidence in every student. We are seeking a dynamic Drama/Theatre Teacher to lead our K-8 drama program and help students explore the transformative power of the performing arts.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Drama/Theatre Teacher will design and implement a developmentally appropriate theatre arts curriculum for students in grades K-8. This role includes teaching acting fundamentals, stage presence, improvisation, script work, and production skills, as well as coordinating school plays and performances. The ideal candidate is energetic, student-centered, and skilled at fostering creativity in a supportive, structured environment.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Develop and deliver standards-based instruction in drama and performing arts for grades K-8. </li><li>Teach core theatre concepts, including acting techniques, voice and movement, improv, character development, and ensemble work. </li><li>Plan and direct school-wide performances, such as plays, showcases, and special events. </li><li>Manage all aspects of production, including rehearsals, staging, props, costumes, and student crew support. </li><li>Collaborate with other teachers to integrate drama into cross-curricular projects. </li><li>Create a classroom environment that encourages expression, collaboration, and creativity. </li><li>Assess student learning and provide timely feedback to students and parents. </li><li>Maintain materials, props, costumes, and classroom resources. </li><li>Support the mission, culture, and expectations of the charter school. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, Performing Arts, or a related field required. </li><li>Valid teaching license or eligibility for licensure preferred (state-specific). </li><li>Experience working with elementary and middle school students, preferably in an educational or theatre setting. </li><li>Strong classroom management and student engagement skills. </li><li>Ability to plan and lead theatrical productions and events. </li><li>Strong communication and organizational abilities. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Skills</p> <ul> <li>Experience directing youth productions. </li><li>Background in technical theatre (lighting, sound, set design) is a plus. </li><li>Experience in charter or K-8 environments. </li><li>Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting. </li></ul> <p>Compensation & Benefits</p> <p>Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications, with benefits in accordance with charter school policies.</p>
