The Engineer Technician performs engineering work associated with drafting, surveying, design, construction inspection, and maintenance of public works projects and other activities.</p> <p>The City of De Pere may hire at either the Engineer Technician or Engineer Senior Technician level, depending on experience and qualifications.</p> <p>Wage: Depending on qualifications, plus an excellent benefits package.</p> <p> Engineer Technician $29.19 - $35.03 per hour</p> <p> Engineer Senior Technician $34.03 - $40.83 per hour</p> <p>The City of De Pere rewards employees for exceptional work performance with a pay for performance incentive program. Employees may be awarded a salary increase, bonus, or paid time off for exceptional work performance. Employees will be automatically enrolled in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), a pension plan to help provide for financial security during retirement, which consists of employer and employee contributions.</p> <p>Typical Work Schedule: The normal work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Friday 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. plus additional hours as required to complete assignments. Technicians are required to work additional hours during the construction season. This varies depending on contractor schedules but weekly averages of 45 to 50 plus hours do occur. Technicians receive overtime pay over 40 hours per week. However, the City of De Pere recognizes the importance of its employees having a proper work-life balance and supports alternative work arrangements which include alternative work schedules, flexible scheduling, and remote work to help meet your lifestyle needs.</p> <p>The City of De Pere is a qualifying employer under the Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.</p> <p>Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and a formal review of all applications will start on approximately July 14, 2025. Assist in establishing preliminary and design surveys to ensure project control and performance. </li><li>Inspect construction projects to ensure conformance with plans and specifications and advise appropriate personnel of variance needing correction. </li><li>Assist contractors, public corporations, and private individuals in locating municipally-owned facilities. </li><li>Draft preliminary and final construction drawings. Prepare exhibits for presentation. Prepare record drawings. </li><li>Document the contracting and repair and inspection of all sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water lateral repairs in the public right of way or City of De Pere easements. </li><li>Gather information and data by field and office research. </li><li>Assist in the preparation of construction plans and bidding documents and prepare quantity and cost estimates. </li><li>Assist in maintaining records for Engineering Department activities. </li><li>Assist in the preparation of technical and general reports. </li><li>Operate surveying and office equipment. </li><li>Review and analyze Closed-Circuit Televising (CCTV) studies and reports for determining sanitary and storm sewer projects and contracts. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>In addition to the essential functions listed above, the Engineer Senior Technician performs the following essential functions:</p> <ul> <li>Serve as crew chief. </li><li>Provide information to contractors and citizens requesting information regarding any improvement or assessment. </li><li>Assist in the basic design of sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, streets, parking lots, and other public works projects. </li><li>Coordinate new utility information for inclusion in the City of De Pere Geographic Information System (GIS). </li><li>Review and approve permits to install utilities in the City rights of ways. </li><li>Assist in supervision and training of seasonal engineering aides. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Principles and practices of public works construction. </li><li>Civil engineering principles and practices related to public works projects. </li><li>Erosion control best management practices. </li><li>Principles and practices of site and construction surveying. </li><li>Operation of various surveying instruments. </li><li>Standard office practices and procedures including business English, business document format, spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, filing and math. </li><li>Computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, database applications, accounting and specialized software consistent for this position. </li><li>City and Department functions to effectively screen inquiries and process related documents. </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li>Operation of office equipment to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. </li><li>Self-starting and being motivated with the ability to work independently. </li><li>Being trustworthy and honest; taking accountability when appropriate. </li><li>Writing and editing correspondence. </li><li>Applying problem solving, logic and reasoning to determine solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Read and interpret construction plans and specifications. </li><li>Handle multiple tasks at once and take on a diverse range of tasks. </li><li>Be highly dependable with a history of consistent attendance and punctuality. </li><li>Comprehend policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence, construction plans and specifications, SDS sheets, safety manuals, technical manuals, schematics, maps, etc. </li><li>Share appropriate information and support other team members. </li><li>Demonstrate a consistent level of accuracy and thoroughness. </li><li>Organize, schedule, prioritize and perform duties with limited supervision. </li><li>Prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of quality work product, meet deadlines, and improve overall department/office efficiency. </li><li>Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, temperatures, job sites, uneven terrain, noise, dust, etc. </li><li>Observe, follow instructions, and complete assignments accurately and within deadlines. </li><li>Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with business representatives, elected officials, department heads, the public, and other City employees with courtesy and tact. </li><li>Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding information read or heard. </li><li>Handle interruptions; combine routine workload with special assignments. </li><li>Utilize a computer and required software. </li><li>Work the required hours of the position and respond after hours as needed. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education: Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Technology or related field.</p> <p>Minimum Experience: Practical work experience as an intern or permanent employment as a Civil Engineering Technician. Practical work experience in construction operations and inspection. Engineer Senior Technicians will have four or more years of experience as a Civil Engineering Technician. Experience with GiS and CAD systems desirable.</p> <p>A combination of education and experience may be considered.</p> <p>Other Requirements: Valid unencumbered Wisconsin driver's license and safe driving record.</p> <p>PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
