<p>POSITION: Junior Systems Administrator</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Junior Network Services Administrator plays a crucial role in supporting the University's network infrastructure and systems. This position works closely with other members of the Network Services team, assisting in day-to-day tasks as needed. This is a full-time position that works a 40 hour per week schedule and will occasionally require overtime and weekend hours. On-call participation during university closures and events is compulsory.</p> <p>This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or entry-level professional looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic IT environment.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Assist in the administration of applications and servers, including installation, patching, and troubleshooting. </li><li>Assist with user account management. </li><li>Support end-users by resolving technical issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity. </li><li>Monitor health/security of servers, security appliances, and remote access infrastructure; assist in remediation of discovered issues. </li><li>Monitor network performance, identify potential issues, and assist in the implementation of adjustments to ensure optimal network operation. </li><li>Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including network diagrams, procedures, and user guides. </li><li>Perform routine system backups and participate in disaster recovery planning and testing. </li><li>Participate in Network Services on-call. </li><li>Other Assigned Duties </li></ul> <p>Average Weekly Time Allocations</p> <p>30% - System Administration Duties</p> <p>25% - End-user Support</p> <p>20% - Network Infrastructure Maintenance</p> <p>10% - Network Performance Monitoring / Response</p> <p>15% - Unallocated/Other Assigned Duties</p> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. </li><li>Capability to work in confined spaces, such as server rooms or network closets, for extended periods of time. </li><li>Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks such as connecting cables, replacing components, and racking network equipment. </li><li>Good vision and color perception to troubleshoot and identify issues with network cables, connectors, and indicator lights. </li><li>Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing computer-related tasks. </li><li>Ability to convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. </li><li>Adequate hearing ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via audio/video conferencing. </li></ul> <p>Working Relationships</p> <p>This role will report to the Director of Network Services.</p> <p>This role is required to engage Student Technicians and other ITS staff to complete work and is required to communicate need, train, and follow-up with assigned or delegated work effectively.</p> <p>Work Schedule</p> <p>IT Services is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Friday 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. Summer hours may vary. Office hours are subject to change as deemed necessary. Occasional work on Saturdays and evenings may be required. On-call participation during university closures and events is compulsory.</p> <p>Travel</p> <p>Some travel may be required for supporting our campus at Greer. In addition, there may be training opportunities where travel may be necessary.</p> <p>This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee.
