The position requires manual work of a routine and unskilled nature in the operation of County parks. Work involves both heavy and light physical labor in a wide range of park maintenance activities. Assignments may occasionally include the performance of semi-skilled duties learned on the job. Routine work is subject to general supervision, but specific instruction and close supervision are given for all new assignments.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Clean BBQ pits, restrooms, picnic areas, and camp areas; mows grass, haul garbage, and cut and haul trees, and prepare athletic fields for use. </li><li>Operate mowing machines, tractors, trucks, snow removal equipment, chain saws, and similar equipment, skid-steer, and small dump truck. </li><li>Performs minor repairs, such as replacing rotting boards on picnic tables and paintings, replacing washers on plumbing, replacing screens and glass panes on windows and doors, receptacles, light switches, and lights. </li><li>Meets the public and gives information concerning park facilities, rules, and regulations. </li><li>Opens and closes park facilities with the changing seasons by winterizing plumbing and cleaning equipment and structures. </li><li>Assists as a laborer in the maintenance of equipment and park amenities and construction of park facilities. </li><li>Perform daily opening and closing of assigned park facilities and other related work as assigned. </li><li>Attends department and safety meetings. </li></ul> <p>Position Maintenance Laborer - Parks Department Position Requirements</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent. </li><li>A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the building, electrical, or mechanical trades </li></ul> <p>Licenses or Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Missouri Driver's License. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>None </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Skill in the operation, care, and maintenance of and cleaning equipment </li><li>Ability to understand and carry out written or oral instructions without immediate supervision </li><li>Ability to inform visitors about rules and regulations of the park and to advise them about available park resources </li><li>Ability to operate mowing machines, tractors, trucks, snow removal equipment, chain saws and similar equipment, backhoe, truck with loaded trailer and dump truck </li><li>Ability to operate motor vehicles and use hand and power tools </li><li>Ability to perform manual work requiring good physical condition </li><li>Must be able to read a tape measure/ruler and measure liquids </li><li>Must be able to load and unload fifteen (15) heavy objects (80 lbs.) into and from county vehicles within 15 minutes </li><li>Ability to stoop, climb, crawl, walk, grip, twist, see, hear, olfaction </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The work is heavy and requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The work also requires mental and visual acuity, speaking, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling; picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand; grasping; picking, holding or otherwise working with the whole hand; hearing, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, stooping, talking, and walking.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <ul> <li>Exposure to extra weather conditions including temperatures from 0 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, mud, rain, snow, sleet and humid conditions. </li><li>Confined areas (i.e., vehicles and crawlspaces). </li><li>Public meeting locations. </li><li>Direct sunlight for extended period of time, windy conditions and areas with high pollen and mold count. </li><li>Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and electrical hazards. </li><li>Must be able to load and unload fifteen (15) heavy objects (80 lbs.) into and from county vehicles within 15 minutes </li><li>Must have the ability to perform manual work requiring good physical condition </li><li>Must have the ability to stoop, climb, crawl, walk, grip, twist, see, hear and smell exposed to a wide variety of personalities and attitudes; zoonotic diseases; and potential for injury from animals and humans. </li></ul> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Please complete the online application found at www.jeffcomo.org Resumes are accepted as supplemental information only and will not be used as a substitute for the application, you must complete the application in full.</p> <p>Shift -not applicable- Normal Entry Salary $17.92 per hour Salary Range EOE Statement Jefferson County Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
