Allen Park Schools</p> <p>District:</p> <p>  Melvindale Northern Allen Park Public Schools  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>From: Ryan Vranesich, Superintendent</p> <p>Position: School Nurse</p> <p>Location: Melvindale- Northern Allen Park Schools</p> <p>Roles and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Promotes and protects the optimal health status of school-age children </li><li>Provides health assessments. </li><li>Obtains health history. </li><li>Screen and evaluate findings of deficit in vision, hearing, growth, etc. </li><li>Observes the child for development and health patterns in making nursing assessments. </li><li>Identifies abnormal health findings. </li><li>Participates in developing and implementing a student health plan. </li><li>Interprets the health status of students to parents and school personnel. </li><li>Provides ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel and health agencies. </li><li>Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students. </li><li>Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students. </li><li>Plans and implements school health management protocols. </li><li>Participates in home visits when indicated to assess the family needs as related to the child's health. </li><li>Develops procedures and provides for emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses. </li><li>Coordinates Vision, Hearing and other health screening activities </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications and Education Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Associate's or Bachelor's degree and current nursing license with the state of Michigan </li><li>State of Michigan School Nurse Certification </li><li>Registered with the state of Michigan with Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) as a licensed and Registered Nurse. </li><li>Minimum of three to five years successful Registered Nurse experience, preferably with school age students, in public health nursing, community health nursing or in a school health setting. </li><li>Experience with Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) </li><li>Excellent and empathetic communicator. </li><li>Excellent writing and mathematics ability. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Skills</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work exceptionally with our diverse community and professional staff. </li><li>Ability to train, monitor, document and effectively implement health care plans that potentially are critical and/or chronic. </li><li>Knowledge of principles and practices underlying professional nursing and the special field of school health. </li><li>Knowledge of the current trends in nursing and of literature in the field of school health. </li><li>Knowledge of the organization and administration of other cooperating agencies. </li><li>Knowledge of state and local laws relating to health and social issues. </li><li>Ability to participate cooperatively in a program of school health nursing. </li><li>Ability to exercise professional judgment in making decisions. </li><li>Ability to communicate appropriately, collaboratively and effectively with students, parents, administrators, other school personnel, health care providers and community agencies. </li><li>Demonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs. </li><li>Ability to organize a health office and manage time. </li><li>Be self-started and self-motivated. </li><li>Ability to use a computer and various software applications. </li></ul> <p>Job Summary</p> <ul> <li>Provide health services to strengthen and facilitate the educational process by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning in the individual students. </li><li>Promote an optimal level of wellness of students and staff by providing preventative health services to facilitate the student and staff's optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. </li><li>Identify problems and disabilities and provide such services as case finding, health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems and manage current chronic conditions. </li></ul> <p>Evaluation</p> <p>Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the requirements of the District and state law.</p> <p>Terms of employment</p> <p>Salary and work year to be determined by local contract.</p> <p>Attachment(s):</p> <ul> <li>School Nurse </li></ul>
