<p>VCU Athletic Office of Student-Athlete Support Services is seeking tutors well versed in various subjects.</p> <p>The Office of Student-Athlete Support Services employs approximately 40-50 tutors in nearly every major subject area each semester. VCU Rams tutors promote academic success by helping student-athletes who are experiencing academic difficulty or need additional support to develop academic skills and course-specific knowledge. Training will be provided to tutors to effectively meet the needs of tutees. There may also be limited opportunities for tutors to work during the summer. Tutors are expected to be knowledgeable in chosen content areas and be capable of teaching study skills and learning strategies. Tutors will also be responsible for special projects and other duties as assigned by the Tutor Coordinator. All tutors must complete a performance evaluation with the Tutor Coordinator each semester.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Conduct weekly sessions with students to promote independent learning.</p> </li><li> <p>Identify and address study skill needs for students in the context of the tutorial session.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate effectively with students.</p> </li><li> <p>Create and submit accurate records of sessions with student-athletes by the specified deadline.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a high level of knowledge in academic areas selected to tutor.</p> </li><li> <p>Know and comply with the policies of VCU SASS that govern the tutoring of student-athletes, especially NCAA regulations.</p> </li><li> <p>Comply with the University's FERPA, Honor Code, and Title IX guidelines.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with SASS staff to ensure success of the student-athlete.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend tutor training and meetings as required, completing at least ten (10) hours of training a semester.</p> </li><li> <p>Additional duties as assigned by Tutor Coordinator.</p> </li></ol> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must have completed at least 40 credits. </li><li>Must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative undergraduate and/or graduate GPA. </li><li>Be available to work a minimum of 12 hours a week from the first day of classes to the end of final exams.
