<p>Class Definition</p> <p>Using traditional and electronic research methods, the Research Librarian provides legal research, reference, and bibliographical assistance to the courts, state government agencies, attorneys, self-represented litigants, and citizens of the state. The Research Librarian is responsible for providing professional consultation to judges and court units; for providing training to lawyers, students, staff and others on the use of electronic resources such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, HeinOnline and other legal research databases; for performing periodic reviews of new and existing resources to ensure improved service and research efficiencies. The Research Librarian will assist the Law Librarian in the promotion of the Law Library and four county libraries to departments within the Judiciary, state and federal agencies, students, vendors, and the public. The Research Librarian will be cross-trained on other Law Library responsibilities and will be required to perform all other related duties as may be assigned by the Law Librarian. The Research Librarian may be required to work in any of the Law Library's five (5) locations.</p> <p>Required Qualifications for Appointment</p> <p>The position of Research Librarian requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; Juris Doctor and/or Master's in Library & Information Science preferred. The successful candidate will possess at least one year of experience in a legal setting; prior library experience is a plus. Must be competent with Microsoft Office applications. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills required. Candidates must have significant legal research experience with both print and electronic resources including Westlaw and LexisNexis; or any combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.</p> <p>For information regarding the benefits available to State of Rhode Island employees, please visit the Office of Employee Benefits' website at http://www.employeebenefits.ri.gov/.</p> <p>Also, be advised that a new provision in RI General Law 35-6-1 was enacted requiring direct deposit for all employees. Specific to new hires, the law requires that all employees hired after September 30, 2014 participate in direct deposit. Accordingly, any employee hired after this date will be required to participate in the direct deposit system.
