No Career Ladder Path Department Name Career Development Center Full Time / Part Time full-time Scheduled Work Week / Hours / Area</p> <p>35 Hours/Week</p> <p>Monday-Friday</p> <p>8:30am-4:30pm (weekend and outside hours may occur)</p> <p>Academic or Calendar Year calendar Number of Employees Supervised 0 Position Overview</p> <p>Reporting to the Director of Career and Life Design, the Career Specialist will provide career advisement and career readiness skills to students - both undergraduate and graduate - and alumni through individual, classroom, group, and other delivery methods on all aspects of self-assessment, career exploration, and professional development from admissions to post-graduation though the life design model. The Career Specialist will work with the team to promote and encourage internship and experiential education opportunities. This position is an essential component to preparing graduates for careers in emerging sectors through a scaffolded approach from admissions to graduation.</p> <p>Primary Purpose</p> <p>Reporting to the Director of Career and Life Design, the Career Specialist will provide career advisement and career readiness skills to students - both undergraduate and graduate - and alumni through individual, classroom, group, and other delivery methods on all aspects of self-assessment, career exploration, and professional development from admissions to post-graduation though the life design model. The Career Specialist will work with the team to promote and encourage internship and experiential education opportunities. This position is an essential component to preparing graduates for careers in emerging sectors through a scaffolded approach from admissions to graduation.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Educate and advise students in all stages and functions of the career decision-making process, including but not limited to career exploration, experience acquisition, resume development, job, and experiential learning search strategies, leveraging AI, LinkedIn, employer research, interviewing skills, networking, mentorship, job/internship/volunteer search strategies, and all other job-seeking skills. </li><li>Work closely and be assigned to provide career advising to students within the Schools of Nursing, Social Work, and Education. </li><li>Support students' career readiness and professional skill development using the center's resources, career-related exploration tools as well as the wide range of online career platforms available; encourage search and participation with internships. </li><li>Design, develop, and market career advising and exploration programming. </li><li>Assist with the coordination and delivery of career events and programs, such as employer recruiting activities, networking events, and collaborative programs. </li><li>Assist with student employment as needed. </li><li>Infuse Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice into career exploration and job search activities with students. </li><li>Work with faculty and staff to seamlessly deliver career services that prepare Rhode Islanders for careers in emerging sectors. This includes developing relationships with local employers and community agencies for internship and job shadowing opportunities within specific careers, collaboration for career fairs, class visits, workshops, and more. </li><li>As part of the team, work to create a culture of career and life design in and out of the classroom through assisting with special projects as designated by the Director of Career and Life Design. </li><li>Use Handshake, Starfish and/or appropriate tools for appointment scheduling, note-taking, and managing data on student advisees. </li><li>Participate in College events including but not limited to New Student Orientation, Open House, yield events, and more. </li><li>Collaborate with the team to meet workforce development needs and promote relevant experiential learning and job opportunities to students. </li></ul> <p>Occasional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Career and Life Design. </li><li>Work evening and weekend hours as required to meet the needs of students. </li></ul> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, inclusive, and student-centered environment and with students of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life experiences. </li><li>Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of career readiness and life design as applied to student educational and developmental needs. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to create and execute programming and workshops. </li><li>Demonstrated experience in computer and web-based skills (including career database and/or online teaching platforms, video communication and social media platforms). </li><li>Demonstrated understanding of student development. </li><li>Demonstrated curriculum design and assessment of experiential learning and/or career education </li><li>Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality (FERPA). </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve shared outcomes. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree with relevant experience </li><li>Minimum of one year of experience recruiting or providing career/academic advising in a higher education setting to aspiring college students or individuals transitioning to the workforce. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in college student personnel services, counseling or a related field. </li><li>Academic or career advising experience. </li><li>Knowledge and experience in career database platforms. </li><li>Experience working with college policy, college curriculum, academic coaching and campus resources in an advising setting. </li><li>Proficiency in student record systems, preferably Peoplesoft. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to utilize technology, including current social media applications. </li><li>Bilingual in Spanish (verbal and written). </li></ul> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <p>The employee is not exposed to known adverse environmental conditions.</p>
