<p>Seasonal vacancy on operations crew.</p> <p>Schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts, 6:00am-4:30pm Tuesday-Friday (Monday off).</p> <p>SUMMARY</p> <p>Under immediate supervision, to perform a variety of apprentice level duties associated with the maintenance, repair, and construction of the city's transportation infrastructure. Work takes place in a variety of conditions ranging from mild to very hot conditions and inclement weather. This position includes outdoor physical labor and the use and operation of manual tools, light, and moderately heavy power-driven equipment.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED</p> <p>None.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Respond to emergency call out or overtime repair work. </li><li>Comply with OSHA standards and practices as they relate to the various aspects of the Streets Division. </li><li>Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment used in the maintenance of the city's road related infrastructure and solid waste administration and graffiti abatement. </li><li>Operate a wide variety of power equipment which includes pre-trips and daily logs in accordance with City policy. </li><li>Haul materials and equipment to and from job sites. </li><li>Interpret and apply the policies, procedures, laws, codes and regulations pertaining to this Division's programs and functions </li><li>Maintain concise records and logs associated with tasks performed. </li><li></li><li>Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles; operate concrete saw, , mud-pumper and forklift. </li><li>Perform preventative maintenance procedures and minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment used. </li><li>Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Employee will be assigned to work in one of the three main sections of the Streets Division and will work generally within that section to construct, inspect, maintain the various aspects assigned to the Streets Division. However, employees may assist other units within the Streets Division and other Public Works Divisions as the needs arise.</p> <p>Asphalt Assignment</p> <ul> <li>Pothole repair, utility restoration, milling and overlaying entire streets, crack sealing, inspection, and special projects. </li><li>Perform semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of components of the City streets; remove and replace road surface material and debris; load, transport, and unload stones, gravel, asphalt, supplies, and equipment as required. </li><li>Fill, patch, and resurface holes, and cracks on City streets, </li><li>Occasional utility repair restoration </li></ul> <p>Concrete Assignment</p> <ul> <li>Sidewalk (including ADA ramps), curb and gutter installation and/or replacement, trip step removal by means of grinding or mud-pumping and special projects </li><li>Break up and remove concrete or asphalt, build and set forms, place concrete for curbs, gutters, drains, culverts, sidewalks, and handicap ramps. </li></ul> <p>Operations Assignment</p> <ul> <li>Sign inspections and recording of data, sign repair/replacement and the installation of new signs. </li><li>Maintenance, repair and replacement of traffic signs and road markings, including inspections and documentation </li><li>Striping inspections, coordinating re-striping maintenance activity, and executing work orders for new striping, monitoring contracted striping, removal and replacement of changes initiated by the city's Traffic Engineer. </li><li>Graffiti abatement involving inspections of "hot spots," removing graffiti in accordance with the city's directive. </li><li>Graffiti abatement using a variety of equipment and chemicals in accordance with the manufacture's recommendations. </li><li>Solid Waste: maintaining the city's solid waste container inventory, including unloading semi-trailers, repair and replacement of damaged solid waste containers in service, delivery and transport of city dumpsters. </li><li>Handling work orders for delivery of containers to new homes and repairs and replacements to customers throughout the city. Coordinating with the solid waste collection contractor on the city's glass recycling containers and the quarterly e-waste and shred events. Maintaining the city's dumpsters and coordinating use of those dumpsters within the PW Department and special projects. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education: High school diploma or GED.</p> <p>Experience: One year of experience performing a variety of maintenance, repair, or construction preferred.</p> <p>Certifications/Licenses:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Utah Driver's License </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>The other sections of the Streets Division and Public Works as resources are apportioned across Streets Divisions and occasionally throughout Public Works Department as needed for special projects and circumstances. </li><li>Preventative maintenance required for the vehicles, tools and equipment and equipment which will be operated and the ability to detect the need for, as well as make minor repairs and/or adjustments. </li><li>Proper operational characteristics of light to heavy motorized equipment, including safe driving principles and practices. </li><li>Materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in all aspects of local government street maintenance and repair. </li><li>Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary for street maintenance and construction. </li><li>Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including Bluestakes and MUTCD. </li></ul> <p>Skill with:</p> <ul> <li>Operating a variety of street maintenance, repair, and construction equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner including manual tools. </li><li>Performing heavy manual labor for extended periods of time. </li><li>Operating a motor vehicle safely. </li><li>Operating the full range of equipment and tools used in street maintenance and repair in a safe and effective manner. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. </li><li>Read, interpret, and apply technical information from manuals, drawings, specifications, layouts, blueprints, Interpret plan and profile documents and schematics. </li><li>Ability to clearly write various reports to track time, material, performance, etc. and perform arithmetic calculations. </li><li>Interpret, and apply the policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to maintenance programs and functions. </li><li>Apply knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices necessary in the areas of street maintenance, repair, and construction. </li><li>Safely operate equipment utilized in the Streets Division. </li><li>Perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and tools. </li><li>Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other city departments, public and private organizations, and the public. </li><li>Perform street maintenance and repair with accuracy, speed, and minimal supervision. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.; exposure to heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations. Moderate-to-heavy physical activity. Difficult working positions. Required to stand, walk, or sit uncomfortably for extended periods. Constant exposure to disagreeable elements such as extreme heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, dust, airborne particles, and grease. Also, exposure to vehicular traffic while working in the public roadway. Potential occupational hazards due to exposures to heated asphalt, asphalt emulsion materials and compounds, and petroleum-based solvents and potentially explosive propane gas.</p>
