This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, federal and state regulations, and higher education best practices.</p> <p>Reports to Vice President for Finance</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Accounting</p> <ul> <li>Assist in oversight of general ledger operations and monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. </li><li>Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and higher education accounting standards. </li><li>Oversee accounting for restricted funds, endowments, pledges, grants, and capital projects. </li><li>Review account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies. </li><li>Maintain Accounting System and other accounting and control systems; assist in the design, development, implementation and improvement processes related to financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting in support of the institution in making strategic decisions. </li><li>Work with the College's various departments on accounting issues and recordkeeping </li><li>Perform other tasks/projects as assigned </li></ul> <p>Audit & Compliance</p> <ul> <li>Serve as primary liaison to external auditors for the annual financial statement audit, tax filings, and other compliance and reporting requirements. </li><li>Coordinate preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation. </li><li>Manage the Single Audit process in accordance with the Uniform Guidance (if applicable). </li><li>Oversee preparation of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA). </li><li>Monitor implementation of audit recommendations and corrective action plans. </li><li>Support preparation of Form 990 and other required filings. </li></ul> <p>Internal Controls & Risk Management</p> <ul> <li>Payroll oversight and reconciliation, including review of payroll entries and adjustments, payroll process improvements and risk mitigation, and ensuring strong internal controls over payroll processing, approvals, and reporting. </li><li>Maintain and strengthen internal control policies and procedures. </li><li>Evaluate accounting processes and recommend improvements. </li><li>Assist in developing and updating financial policies. </li><li>Support risk assessment and compliance monitoring activities. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree. Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. Master's degree preferred. </li><li>8-10 years of progressive accounting experience. </li><li>Experience managing external audits. </li><li>Strong knowledge of nonprofit and higher education accounting, including GAAP and audit experience. </li><li>Demonstrated experience overseeing payroll operations, including system administration, compliance, and internal controls. </li><li>Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills, proficient in Word and PowerPoint </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>CPA designation. </li><li>Experience with Single Audit requirements. </li><li>Experience in higher education or nonprofit organizations. </li><li>Proficiency in J1/Jenzabar </li><li>Supervisory experience </li></ul> <p>Key Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills </li><li>Attention to detail and accuracy </li><li>Ability to manage multiple deadlines </li><li>Effective written and verbal communication skills </li><li>Leadership and team development </li></ul> <p>Schedule is typically Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm and based on the needs of the department.</p> <p>35 hours</p>
