<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Budget Title: Instructional Support Technician</p> <p>Campus Title: Environmental Health & Safety Services Technician</p> <p>Unit: Undergraduate Admissions</p> <p>Professional Rank and Salary: SL-3; $57,151 DOQ</p> <p>Location: Syracuse</p> <p>Description of Duties:</p> <p>The Environmental Health & Safety Services (EHSS) Technician provides support to the Office of EHSS and reports to the Director of EHSS. Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li>Performs functions at all campuses and properties. 90% of work is at the Syracuse campus with periodic day trips required to remote campuses in the Adirondacks, Thousand Islands, and Tully NY. Occasional overnight travel is required. </li><li>Collects and prepares for disposal, chemicals from labs and various College units and maintains their inventories. Manages the disposal/recycling effort. Handling and processing to include bulking of solvents, lab packing, and rendering materials less hazardous when possible. </li><li>Prepares and coordinates quote requests for EPA/DEC regulated waste disposal/recycling services, and ensures chemical waste shipping/disposal paperwork complies with governmental regulations. </li><li>Monitors inventory of supplies and equipment needed for waste collection and disposal, spill response, and fire extinguishers. Orders related supplies as necessary. </li><li>Working knowledge of fire alarm system, maintains fire alarm equipment, assist with conducting fire drills </li><li>Assists with preparation and completion of annual NYS Fire Inspection. Works to correct identified violations in a timely manner. </li><li>Participates in laboratory and facility safety inspections in conjunction with EHSS Director </li><li>Inspection, testing, and maintenance of campus safety equipment, including but not limited to: safety showers, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, sprinkler valves, PIV's, fire hydrants, F. D. connections, and lab fume hoods. Take steps to see that noted problems are corrected. </li><li>Serves as a member of the Institutional Biosafety Committee and Biosafety Officer. Review and comment on Biosafety manuals and applications, complete lab inspections, ensure regulatory compliance </li><li>Perform pre-work chemical clearances and assist in code enforcement inspections of labs. </li><li>In coordination with EHSS Director, may respond to environmental complaints including spill response; perform associated sampling/analysis; make decisions regarding protective measures and remediation; and make appropriate notifications. </li><li>Prepares and conducts safety training sessions and maintains records. </li><li>Maintain campus AED program - inspection of units, ordering and replacement of supplies as needed </li><li>Prepares NYS DEC Annual Hazardous Waste Report and NYS quarterly hazardous waste tax reports </li><li>Research various questions related to chemicals and disposal as they arise </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Some college, technical school, previous EHS work experience, or combination </li><li>Clean, Valid NYS Drivers License </li><li>Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products </li><li>Must have strong interpersonal and written communication skills </li><li>Ability to work independently </li><li>Must be capable of wearing a respirator </li><li>Must be able to lift 50 pounds from ground level </li><li>OSHA 40hr HAZWOPER Certification </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree </li><li>Training Experience - Comfortable presenting to and interacting with large groups </li><li>Experience in Higher Education </li><li>Knowledge of IBC procedures and protocols </li><li>Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with safety systems and equipment </li><li>Previous Fire safety knowledge and experience </li><li>RCRA Hazardous Waste Operations Certification </li><li>DOT HM181 Certification </li><li>AED/CPR Certification </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act" institutions of higher education are required to prepare an annual report containing information on campus security policies and campus statistics.
