The incumbent will:</p> <ul> <li>Apply skills and knowledge in carpentry to make structural building repairs, level up cabins, replace and repair roofs, replace siding and shingles, build steps and landings, repair or replace doors and windows, and frame partitions. </li><li>Perform a variety of other maintenance, repair and installation tasks, including jobs in the plumbing, electrical, and masonry trades, such as installing and replacing a variety of plumbing and electrical fixtures, the maintenance of water and sewer systems, stone masonry, sonotube work, and trail work. </li><li>Use and maintain a variety of small equipment and hand tools. </li><li>Use the hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the craft or crafts to which assigned. </li><li>Lay out work and diagnose problems, read and interpret plans, diagrams and specifications. </li><li>Erect and work off scaffolding and extension ladders at various heights. </li><li>Operate machinery such as skid steer, excavators, backhoe and loader. </li><li>Follow safety standards to include use of personal protective clothing and equipment </li><li>Work outside in all weather conditions. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.</p> <p>When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.</p> <p>Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess or obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State within one year of appointment and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. Assistance and use of equipment will be provided. </li><li>Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. </li><li>Must be able to work independently and understand and carry out instructions, including those in writing. </li><li>Must be certified as a scaffold competent person or obtain training and certification within one year of appointment as a term and condition of employment. </li><li>Will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in difficult site terrains, including in remote areas of the park. </li><li>Must have a knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other building crafts. </li><li>Must be qualified and medically cleared to wear a respirator and adhere to safe working practices. </li></ul> <p>Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive.
