The laboratory studies the molecular biology of kidney disease, including translational studies aimed at repairing injured kidneys. This position will be under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and will include performing experiments as part of the ongoing projects of the laboratory. It will include standard molecular biology techniques. The position will also involve managing lines of transgenic mice including immunohistological and molecular analyses of these mice. Additional approaches include next generation sequencing and chromatin immunoprecipitation. With sufficient experience, there may be an opportunity for the Research Assistant to take responsibility for a project. There is an expectation that the Research Assistant will read and develop an understanding of the relevant scientific literature and take part in ongoing laboratory meetings in which they will present their work. This position could be a steppingstone to graduate or medical school. It is also appropriate as a long term career position with opportunity for advancement.</p> <p>Job Summary: Under supervision of the principal investigator, conducts a variety of routine experiments using molecular, cell biology and/or biochemistry techniques. Records test results, calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using basic statistics.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Performs routine and non-routine laboratory tests which may include DNA sequencing, gene cloning, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, northern blotting; synthesizes and interprets results. </li><li>May operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as spectrophotometer, flow cytometer, etc. </li><li>Using analytical abilities and sound judgment, makes decisions regarding the reliability and accuracy of results, repeating procedures when necessary. </li><li>May assist with planning specific research procedures and coordinating schedules of tests and procedures </li><li>May prepare written and/or verbal reports on status of research and the technical procedures used, including statistical and graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field required. </li><li>0-1 years related work experience required. </li><li>Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access. </li></ul> <p>Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are based on specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures which generally require little or no supervision. </li><li>Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements. </li><li>Independence of Action: Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided.
