<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Student Support Services/School Nurse</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>7/18/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Dearborn Schools District Wide</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>As soon as filled</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>09/30/2025</p> <p>District:</p> <p>  Dearborn Public Schools  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>DEARBORN PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>PROFESSIONAL STAFF POSITIONS</p> <p>TITLE: Special Education Nurse for individual student.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree/preferably a Bachelor of Science in Nursing</p> </li><li> <p>Two years of Public Health/Pediatric Community Health experience or equivalent experience is preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Valid Michigan Registered Nurse License</p> </li><li> <p>Qualified Instructor for CPR or willing to complete training at the Instructor's level</p> </li></ul> <p>ASSIGNED GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Teach and reinforce safe and effective mobilization, transfers, and dressing techniques.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Teach bladder and bowel management.</p> </li><li> <p>Teach and perform intermittent catheterization and ostomy care (colostomy, ileostomy, ureterostomy).</p> </li><li> <p>Teach and demonstrate prevention and treatment of pressure sores.</p> </li><li> <p>Reinforce adaptations, treatments, and therapies in a student's academic program and activities in daily living.</p> </li><li> <p>Teach self-care techniques, proper body mechanics, and safe range of motion (ROM).</p> </li><li> <p>Teach safe and effective use of assistive mobilization devices (crutches, walkers, etc) and life-support machines (apnea and cardiac monitors, ventilators)</p> </li><li> <p>Perform/teach safe use and administration of medication and its side effects</p> </li><li> <p>Teach/support in-service on CPR, First Aid, and Universal Health care to staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Write and monitor health care plans for special education students. Document all medical procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in the initial screening of special education referrals which may include</p> </li><li> <p>Screening referred students.Obtaining medical documentation.</p> </li><li> <p>Interpreting medical diagnoses.</p> </li><li> <p>Translating medical information into understandable terminology.</p> </li><li> <p>Assessing a student's needs in regards to possible supportive services.</p> </li><li> <p>Consulting with other medical personnel.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) meetings and Individual Educational Planning Team (IEPT) meetings. Provide students, families, and staff with additional resources, information, and alternatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist school personnel with health and medical emergencies in the school setting.</p> </li><li> <p>Teach and perform oral/nasal suctioning and deep suctioning tracheostomy care.</p> </li><li> <p>Teach and supervise appropriate staff in the process of oral or gastronomy feedings.</p> </li><li> <p>Teach/administer medication via gastronomy tube and perform general care of the g-tube.</p> </li><li> <p>May assist with the supervision of medically fragile children while in transit to and from school.</p> </li><li> <p>Interpret the results of medical findings regarding diagnosis, medication, and health status of students to the parents and school personnel.</p> </li><li> <p>Teach/administer medication via nebulizer or inhaler.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform any medical treatments per the orders of the student's physician.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other related duties as directed by the Special Education Coordinator and the Director of Special Education.</p> </li></ul> <p>REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Special Education Coordinator</p> </li><li> <p>Special Education Director</p> </li></ol> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months</p> <p>EVALUATION: Annually</p> <p>Dearborn Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer.</p> <p>At Dearborn Public Schools, we value diversity and strive to create and sustain inclusive and equitable policies, practices, and environments that support our students, staff, and community members.
