The educational leader will be expected to follow-up and follow through.</p> <p>The Interim Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning is a member of the Senior Cabinet and is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of teaching and learning, PreK - 12. He/She/They will ensure collaboration, cooperation and coordination of these efforts to provide high academic achievement for all students and excellence in teaching.</p> <p>Major Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Curriculum and Instruction </li><li>Insure the advancement of instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners and develop the skills and understandings for designing learning that aligns to the Goals of the Strategic Plan </li><li>Insure continuity and coherence of curriculum PreK - 12 and oversee the process of curriculum development from inception to approval by the School Committee </li><li>Coordinate the preparation and distribution of learning expectations, high school syllabi, curriculum guides, performance reports and other publications to inform the school community </li><li>Participate on the high school Academic Standards Committee and Administrative Council </li><li>Oversee, assist, and coordinate the efforts of Coordinators, Principals and the Headmaster to improve curriculum and instruction </li><li>Assessment of Student Learning </li><li>With the Deputy Superintendent of Student Services oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing review of comprehensive assessment procedures that address the needs of all students </li><li>With the Director of Research and Accountability, evaluate student performance and the effectiveness of curriculum, instruction, and programs by analyzing assessment data </li><li>Collaborate with the Chief Information Officer, Deputy Superintendent for Finance and Administration, and the Director of Research and Accountability to develop, implement, and review strategies for effective management of student data (demographic and performance) </li><li>Program Developments and Evaluation </li><li>Oversee the following programs: English Learner Education, METCO, Enrichment and Challenge Support, Steps to Success, and Brookline Adult and Community Education Program </li><li>Oversee the systematic renewal and continuous improvement of programs, curriculum, instruction, and assessment and assure compliance with the School Committee's curriculum review procedures and curriculum development process </li><li>Provide long-range planning and innovation for the continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, and assessment by staying current with research on issues of teaching and learning </li><li>Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of grants and innovative programs </li><li>Work with the Superintendent in the annual preparation of goals for the district, schools, and programs </li><li>Professional Development </li><li>Oversee the creation and ongoing revisions of a robust Professional Development Master Plan tied directly to the Goals of the Strategic Plan and informed by Educator Evaluation </li><li>Oversee the evaluation of the effectiveness of professional development and its impact on student learning </li><li>Coordinate pre-service training programs and direct the assignment of student teachers and interns </li><li>Oversee orientation for new staff and new teacher mentoring/induction programs </li><li>Provide long-range planning for continuous improvement of professional development </li><li>Network with local, state, and national organizations to stay current on issues of professional development </li><li>Staff Supervision and Evaluation </li><li>Supervise and evaluate the Senior Directors of Teaching and Learning for Elementary Education and the Senior Director of Grants and Programs </li><li>Supervise and evaluate the Director of Professional Development and the Director of Educational Technology and Libraries </li><li>Oversee the effective supervision and evaluation of Curriculum and Program Coordinators (preK-8 and preK-12), and the Directors of METCO, Steps to Success, and Brookline Adult and Community Education </li><li>Evaluate elementary Principals as assigned by the Superintendent </li><li>Budget Responsibilities </li><li>As a member of the Senior Cabinet, establish district budget priorities and engage in the collaborative budget development process with Principals, the Headmaster, Senior Directors, and Program and Curriculum Coordinators. </li><li>Monitor the budget expenditures. </li><li>Oversee the budgets for grants and special projects, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Grants and Programs and the Office of Administration and Finance. </li><li>Managerial Duties </li><li>Participate as a member of the Senior Cabinet which functions as a decision-making body of the Public Schools of Brookline. </li><li>Assist the Superintendent in formulation of policy and making decisions regarding system-wide planning, finance, issues of teaching and learning, long-range plans, setting goals for the system, and labor/employee relations issues. </li><li>Assist the Superintendent in responding to school and community emergencies. </li><li>Assist in the selection of staff for administrative positions across the district. </li><li>Work with the Superintendent to disseminate information on the educational program to parent groups, local organizations, and other school systems through discussion groups, public addresses, and publications. </li><li>Consult with parents, staff, School Committee members, and interested citizens regarding issues relating to teaching and learning. </li><li>Participate in School Committee meetings, as invited, to explain the educational programs to the School Committee and general public. </li><li>Other Responsibilities Assigned by the Superintendent </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Massachusetts DESE certification, Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent </li><li>Five years successful teaching experience </li><li>Five years successful experience in administration, across PreK-12 preferred </li><li>Master's degree minimum, doctorate preferred </li></ul> <p>The School Committee may find alternatives to the above qualifications acceptable.</p> <p>Reports to: Superintendent of Schools</p> <p>Supervises/Evaluates:</p> <ul> <li>Senior Director of Teaching and Learning - Elementary Education </li><li>Senior Director of Grants and Programs </li><li>Director of Professional Development </li><li>Director of Educational Technology and Libraries
