<p>Working Title Videographer Position Number FA441 FLSA Exempt Appointment Type Full Time Sensitive Position No Sensitive Position Statement</p> <p>A sensitive position requires a fingerprint-based criminal history check. This is NOT a sensitive position.</p> <p>Campus Security Authority No Campus Security Authority Statement</p> <p>This position is NOT designated as a Campus Security Authority. A Campus Security Authority (or CSA) is defined as an "official of the institution with significant responsibility for student and campus activities." A CSA is required to immediately report any crime that is reported to them to the University Police who will then review, evaluate, and investigate the reported crime. Annual training is required by the Department of Education for all personnel who have been designated as a Campus Security Authority.</p> <p>Designated Personnel No Designated Personnel Statement</p> <p>A "designated position" means this position could potentially be required to work (depending on the event) during an emergency closing. This is NOT a restricted position.</p> <p>Chief Objective of Position</p> <p>As a member of the communications and public relations team, this position creates and distributes high-quality branded multimedia projects that promote the university through a variety of digital outlets.</p> <p>Work Tasks</p> <ul> <li>Conceive and develop creative solutions for addressing University initiatives through audio-visual assets. </li><li>Produce, edit and distribute media content as required which may include video production, photography, motion graphics, animation, audio and music. </li><li>Execute video shoots on site/on location including lighting, audio, camera operation and talent direction. </li><li>Work closely with internal clients to determine content and format of productions. </li><li>Observe and promote brand standards. </li><li>Conduct interviews with students, staff, faculty, alumni and campus visitors and ensures that valuable sound bites are captured. </li><li>Scout shoot locations and assess possible obstacles in filming and provide solutions or alternatives. </li><li>Use sophisticated software and hardware to edit and assemble final visual/audio program material creating compelling and visually interesting products. </li><li>Maintain all equipment in proper working order including troubleshooting and minor repairs as necessary. </li><li>Attend meetings and offer development and production insight based on the requests. </li><li>Maintain archives of raw campus video as well as edited videos. </li><li>Duplicate videos as required. </li><li>Provides digital photography as assigned for campus events and promotions. </li><li>Provides a customer service approach to more effectively promote the "students first" initiatives ensuring that all constituents are served in a fast, friendly, efficient, and effective manner. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports CNU Traditions and the "students first" value at CNU and routine of going the extra mile in service. </li><li>Reviews safety issues and communicates to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absence. </li><li>This position is designated as a "responsible employee" who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) related to position</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to find and produce good stories in multimedia. </li><li>Knowledge of basic news gathering techniques and the ability to lend a creative eye. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of digital image manipulation. Knowledge of new computer technologies and multimedia/graphic/effects software and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies. Thorough understanding of the internet and the web and its capabilities. </li><li>Familiarity with various new media software and social media outlets. </li><li>Comprehensive knowledge of multimedia principles, concepts, and techniques. </li><li>Excellent communication, writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work independently and develop suitable solutions within established time frame. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work in teams. </li><li>Ability to work closely with faculty, other clients, and media representatives. </li><li>Ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, solve production problems, and effectively manage all aspects of assigned projects. </li><li>Ability to independently troubleshoot hardware and software. </li><li>Knowledge of high quality encoding techniques for online distribution of videos. </li><li>Exceptional planning and organizational skills. </li><li>Extensive knowledge of motion graphics software, web content management systems, and various audio/video/photo editing software such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Premier Pro. </li><li>Ability to adapt to, and make recommendations based on the changing technology landscape. </li><li>Ability to analyze communications needs and design programming to meet needs. </li><li>Be self-directed, self-motivated, and self-sufficient. </li><li>Ability to recruit, train and develop interns. </li><li>Ability to oversee and create videos for multiple social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat. </li><li>Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include some weekends, holidays and evenings. </li></ul> <p>Required Education</p> <p>Master's degree in Media, Communications, Video Production, or a related field - or a Bachelor's degree combined with significant relevant experience. Candidates with equivalent professional experience will also be considered.</p> <p>Additional Consideration - Education Experience Required</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience producing and planning professional-level self-initiated and client-initiated multimedia programming from concept to broadcast for the web and other outlets. </li><li>Experience in script writing, producing, directing and interviewing for video production. </li><li>Demonstrated technical experience in videography, photography, audio recording, lighting design, computer graphics, digital effects and computer video editing for the production of high-quality objective-oriented programming. </li><li>Expertise in operating Video Cameras, SLRs (single lens reflex), EFP, lighting equipment, sound recording equipment, composing sequential shots, editing. </li><li>Must be able to manage time/priorities and multi-task to handle both long term projects and those that require quick or aggressive turnarounds. </li></ul> <p>Additional Consideration - Experience</p> <ul> <li>Prior experience working at a College or University. </li><li>A hybrid shooter proficient in both videography and photography. </li><li>Experience with visual effects such as motion graphics, compositing, or creative editing techniques using tools like After Effects. </li><li>Live streaming experience - more than just operating the camera; hands-on involvement with the full setup is preferred. </li><li>Portfolio - showcase your work and clearly note your role in any group projects. </li></ul> <p>Salary Information Starting at $49,400, Commensurate with Education and Experience CNU Information</p> <p>Christopher Newport University is anchored in excellence, and that is reflected in our ranking as the #1 regional public university in Virginia and #3 among regional public universities in the South.
