<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Administration</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>6/13/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Central Office</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>TBD</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>06/27/2025</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Assistant Director of Special Services</p> <p>Central Office</p> <p>The Assistant Director of Special Services assists the Director of Special Services in administering and managing the district's special services program.</p> <p>Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assumes responsibility for the Department of Special Services in the absence of the Director.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists the Director in performing duties such as the following:</p> </li><li> <p>Supervising and evaluating special services staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Interviewing candidates and making recommendations for the hiring of staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Developing staff development programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitoring instruction and recommending curricular changes.</p> </li><li> <p>Assembling and disseminating pertinent students' records.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitiating contractual agreements.</p> </li><li> <p>Serving as administrator at Planning and Placement Team meetings.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with the monitoring of special education practices in the district in order to ensure compliance with state and federal mandates.</p> </li><li> <p>Assists with referrals to and for community services and providers including DCF, Juvenile Courts,</p> </li></ul> <p>FWSN, YIC.</p> <ul> <li>Assists with all phases of out-of-district placement, including attending PPT and annual reviews, </li></ul> <p>arranging transportation, preparing financial reports and maintaining communication with the facilities and parents.</p> <ol start="6"> <li> <p>Communicates effectively with students, staff and parents.</p> </li><li> <p>Supports special services personnel in the implementation of district initiatives.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains professional competency by attending meetings of professional organizations and</p> </li></ol> <p>conferences, serving on school and district committees, and keeping abreast of current</p> <p>educational literature.</p> <ol start="9"> <li>Performs additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of </li></ol> <p>employment and certification.</p> <p>Required Connecticut certification: Intermediate Administration or Supervision (092) and a Special Services or Special Education endorsement.</p> <p>Reports to: Director of Special Services</p> <p>Work Year: 12 months</p>
