Through inspiring instruction and community-building, you'll empower participants to care for their bodies, live purposefully, and align their wellness journey with BYU's mission of faith, intellect, and character.</p> <p>Note: This is a part-time position for 17.5 hours per week.</p> <p>What you'll do in this position:</p> <ol> <li>Lead Safe, Inclusive, and Effective Group Fitness Classes </li></ol> <ul> <li>Plan and lead engaging classes for varied fitness levels, ensuring proper form, safety, and effective workouts. </li><li>Foster a positive, inclusive environment while maintaining punctuality and alignment with BYU policies and Honor Code. </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li>Prepare for Classes and Maintain Professional Competency </li></ol> <ul> <li>Prepare choreography, music, and equipment; adapt classes based on feedback and participant needs. </li><li>Stay current with fitness trends, attend training courses, and seek feedback for continuous improvement. </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>Foster a Welcoming and Inclusive Culture </li></ol> <ul> <li>Build relationships by greeting participants, learning names, and encouraging regular attendance. </li><li>Use inclusive communication and engage before/after class to strengthen community. </li></ul> <ol start="4"> <li>Ensure Safety and Proper Use of Equipment and Space </li></ol> <ul> <li>Set up equipment and monitor safe usage, proper form, and participant eligibility. </li><li>Follow safety protocols, enforce policies, and report hazards or issues. </li></ul> <ol start="5"> <li>Represent BYU and YFitness Professionally </li></ol> <ul> <li>Maintain a professional appearance and uphold university standards and Honor Code. </li><li>Collaborate effectively with staff, instructors, and supervisors. </li></ul> <ol start="6"> <li>Support Special Events and YFitness Outreach </li></ol> <ul> <li>Assist with or lead events and campus initiatives as needed. </li><li>Promote programs and participate in outreach or volunteer opportunities. </li></ul> <p>What qualifies you for this role:</p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li>A firm commitment to the mission of BYU. </li><li>YFitness instructors are expected to teach 1-2 classes per week. While a few classes are offered in the morning or midday, most take place between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Flexibility and a willingness to work around room availability are essential. </li><li>Demonstrated experience leading group fitness classes in formats such as Spin, Zumba, HIIT, Yoga, Pilates, strength training, or other related disciplines </li><li>Current certification in group fitness instruction from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM) or in a specific format (e.g., Yoga, Spin, Zumba, Pilates). </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>At least 1 year of experience teaching group fitness classes in a structured or professional setting. </li><li>Strong ability to clearly instruct, demonstrate, and motivate participants while creating a positive and inclusive class </li></ul> <p>environment.</p> <ul> <li>A deep commitment to holistic wellness-physical, mental, and spiritual-in alignment with BYU's mission. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills, including punctuality and reliability in maintaining class schedules. </li><li>Current CPR/AED or First Aid certification. </li></ul> <p>What we offer in return:</p> <p>This position comes with fantastic benefits, including:</p> <ul> <li>Employee assistance program, available to the employee and all members of their household </li><li>Access to the library </li><li>Free on-campus parking </li><li>Free UTA pass </li><li>Discounts at the BYU Store and for many events at BYU </li></ul> <p>Pay Grade: 47</p> <p>Typical Starting Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour</p> <p>The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate's job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors.
