We are looking for a Financial Accountant to manage preparation, review and submission of VAT returns, advising on VAT matters, and supporting audits and reporting requirements and building internal controls to mitigate VAT risk. In addition the role will support the Senior Financial Accountant in Corporation and Group reporting activities. The role works closely with various internal departments and HMRC to manage risk and ensure accurate tax reporting.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare, file, and reconcile accurate monthly and quarterly UK VAT returns; investigate discrepancies and liaise with HMRC. </li><li>Ensure VAT compliance across all UK entities, implementing controls, monitoring legislation changes, and educating finance and business teams. </li><li>Advise on VAT implications for transactions, products, and contracts, maintaining accurate tax documentation and audit-ready records. </li><li>Support corporation tax accounting, including preparation of tax packs, returns, and submissions, in collaboration with the Senior Financial Accountant. </li><li>Manage VAT-related balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow forecasting, budgeting, and KPI reporting. </li><li>Contribute to internal tax risk management and support external and internal audits for all tax areas. </li><li>Drive continuous improvement in VAT processes through LEAN practices, systems optimisation, and control enhancements. </li><li>Coach and support junior finance staff while assisting with ad hoc tasks and broader finance responsibilities as required. </li></ul> <p>What We're Looking For:</p> <ul> <li>Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or QBE) with strong experience in financial control, VAT, and tax accounting. </li><li>Solid understanding of VAT legislation and experience enhancing financial systems, processes, and controls. </li><li>Skilled in financial modelling and forecasting across P&L, balance sheet, and cashflow. </li><li>Proven ability to turn financial data into actionable insights and business recommendations. </li><li>Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure. </li><li>Excellent communication, analytical, and reporting skills with a proactive, improvement-focused mindset. </li><li>Advanced in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experienced with financial systems, preferably SAP. </li></ul> <p>What We Offer</p> <ul> <li>25 days (pro rata) annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with length of service </li><li>Medicash - a health cash plan to support everyday healthcare costs (e.g. eyecare, prescriptions) </li><li>iTrent Financial Wellbeing - an app to help manage and access your pay flexibly </li><li>High street discounts and offers </li><li>Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) </li><li>Contributory Pension Scheme </li><li>Fully funded accredited training programmes through the Apprenticeship Scheme </li></ul> <p>INDPMS</p>
