<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Parks and Recreation Line Employees/Seasonal Employees</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>2/10/2026</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Parks and Recreation Offices</p> <p>&nbsp&nbspAdditional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Vernon Parks and Recreation</p> <p>Title: Summer Camp Bus Driver</p> <p>Hourly Rate: $20.40/hr</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Operates and drives the bus to transport day campers on field trips during the Summer Camp season.</p> <p>General Duties</p> <ul> <li>Drives bus in a safe and reliable manner to transport youth day campers as needed to a variety of destinations throughout the state </li><li>Responsible for cleanliness of vehicle </li><li>Responsible for vehicle inspection at the beginning and end of each shift, fuel fill-ups, and overall safety and security of the Town Vehicle </li><li>Reports vehicle defects or malfunctions immediately to the Parks & Recreation Department and Public Works Director </li><li>Prepares reports and maintains accurate records including but not limited to destination, time, mileage, passengers, and hours worked </li><li>Reliable and punctual performance of assigned work duties </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Possess a current and valid CT CDL Class 2 license with passenger/air brake endorsement and medical examiner's certificate </li><li>Must have and maintain a good driving record and demonstrate safe driving </li><li>Experience and skills in the operation of full size and mini bus including knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in vehicle operation </li><li>Knowledge of the geography of the Town of Vernon </li><li>Ability to operate a cell phone </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions </li><li>Ability to communication clearly with program staff, participants, and other Town employees both orally and in writing </li><li>Ability to maintain current and accurate records </li></ul> <p>Physical and mental effort and Work Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Able to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk talk, and hear </li><li>Able to life up to 40 pounds </li><li>Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus </li><li>Able to perform work near moving mechanical parts with exposure to wet and or/humid conditions and vibration </li><li>Able to hear normal sounds with some background noise such </li><li>Potential exposure to blood, body tissues or fluids, seasonal conditions in outside weather, and to loud or unpleasant noises </li></ul>
