<p>Summer 2026 Youth Service Intern IINE Lowell The International Institute of New England is a 501c3 non profit serving refugees and immigrants in Boston MA Lowell MA and Manchester NH The Institute offers internships to students graduate students and recent graduates with demonstrated interest or experience in supporting refugee asylee and immigrant populations Each internship includes an educational component through which interns contextualize their experience and reflect on their service All internships are unpaid and correspond roughly with the US semester system Summer Internship June through mid August 2026 Applications requested by May 2nd considered thereafter until positions are filled First consideration is given to applicants that can commit at least 16 hours per week over the course of the semester outlined above Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of whether their schedule fits the semester system; IINE makes exceptions on a case by case basis Slots fill quickly and candidates are encouraged to apply earlier than the requested date above Please note that this internship will be a remote format meaning that all hours are conducted online Youth Service Internship Overview The IINE Youth Program serves refugee and immigrant youth ages 1524 supporting their personal academic and professional development as they navigate life in the United States The program helps youth build self sufficiency leadership skills and community engagement through case management individualized support and enriching group workshops Youth participants gain access to a wide range of services including after school tutoring job readiness training digital and financial literacy sessions and creative programming like arts and sports The program also supports clients in pursuing educational goals such as HiSET and CNA certification and connects them with mentoring and internship opportunities In addition the Youth Team provides culturally responsive case management coordinates volunteer support and hosts inclusive events that empower young people to build confidence and meaningful connections Programming is designed to meet youth where they areacademically emotionally and developmentallyand is offered in a safe welcoming environment with translation services available Workshops are typically held after school to maximize engagement and clients are encouraged to participate in shaping the services offered Whether supporting newly arrived youth through intakes or facilitating long term goal planning with returning clients the IINE Youth Program remains committed to helping young people thrive and reach their full potential Key Responsibilities Assist in planning and facilitating youth events and activitiesProvide tutoring and academic support to youth clientsComplete administrative tasks including data entry and documentationAttend team meetings and contribute to program discussionsEngage with clients and volunteers in a welcoming and professional mannerShadow and support client intake sessions and one on one meetingsHelp youth explore and apply for job opportunitiesDesign and distribute newsletters with program updates and resourcesCreate flyers and promotional materials for upcoming events and servicesRequired SkillsAbilities Highly Organized Able to manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail in fast paced environmentsTime Management Skilled in setting deadlines prioritizing tasks and ensuring timely completion of projectsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite Experienced with Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook and other essential Microsoft toolsMedia Design Knowledgeable in creating visually engaging materials for digital and print platformsEffective Networking Capable of building and maintaining professional relationships to support organizational goalsProject Planning Experienced in developing timelines delegating tasks and coordinating resources to meet project objectivesEvent Planning and Hosting Skilled in organizing events from concept to execution including logistics promotion and day of coordinationAdministrative Support Competent in handling day to day office operations scheduling data entry and other administrative dutiesQualifications Currently pursuing a degree in International Studies Education or a related fieldExperience supporting youth ages 1324 in educational mentorship or social service settingsPrior experience providing tutoring andor mentorship to adolescents and young adultsFamiliarity with job readiness support including identifying job opportunities and assisting with employment applicationsLearning Objectives Recognize common challenges faced by immigrant and refugee populationsBuild training compliance and auditing skills transferrable to other industriesLearn best practices for conducting internal audits including an understanding of compliance protocols for all Programs at IINEBecome confident in creating and hosting trainings for new and current staffDevelop strong advocacy and interpersonal skillsCapture important information from case notes to ensure complianceRespectfully express and engage with ideas and values in a multilingual environment</p>
