<p>Adaptive Swimming Instructor (part time)</p> <p>Deadline to Apply: Friday, September 19th</p> <p>Expected Start Date: September 2025</p> <p>Details</p> <ul> <li>Part Time (Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal Status), Non-Exempt </li><li>Starts at $23.00/hour, depending on qualifications </li><li>Reports to Recreation Supervisor- Aquatics </li><li>Located at Eden Prairie Community Center (16700 Valley View Road, Eden Prairie, MN). </li><li>Hours vary, work schedules may range from a minimum of 1-2 hours per week and up. Hours are flexible and adjust by the season. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The Adaptive Swimming Instructor will specialize in teaching people with disabilities basic understanding of stroke development, lifesaving safety skills, enhancing comfort in and around pools and general pool usage. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:</p> <ul> <li>Establishes clear individualized lesson plans that support the participants learning goals. </li><li>Experiences with individuals who experience cognitive, physical, or sensory processing differences. </li><li>Assists participant in using age-appropriate self-management skills including communication, self-regulation, self-help skills, motor skills, play and relationship skills. </li><li>Provides the opportunity for success by adapting activities, managing behaviors, and providing additional assistance as needed. </li><li>Encourages participants to be as independent as possible and respects each participant's unique learning style. </li><li>Always ensures safety of participant. </li><li>Provides high quality customer service by consistently exhibiting an enthusiastic attitude; greeting participants with a smile, eye contact, and personalized message; responding to questions with accurate information or referring them to an appropriate contact. </li><li>Communicates with parents/guardians, program staff, and supervisor about the program and participant progress. </li></ul> <p>While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.</p> <p>Requirements</p> <ul> <li>16 years of age or older </li><li>One (1) year experience working/volunteering in a recreation, aquatics, education, or related field. </li><li>Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification required or willingness to obtain certification. </li><li>CPR (infant, child, and adult) and First Aid/AED certified or within the first 30 days of employment. </li><li>Experience working with or being around individuals with disabilities required; must be able to demonstrate patience, flexibility, communication, organization, resourceful, and maintain confidentiality. </li><li>Must be comfortable in the water and be a strong swimmer. </li><li>Must have proven dependability, teamwork, ability to make necessary accommodations and readiness to actively participate in all aspects of the program. Behavioral support a plus. </li><li>Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT) </li><li>Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City's evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification. </li></ul> <p>Skills</p> <ul> <li>Able to convey a message to get a point across. Establishes methods to ensure routine tasks are completed. </li><li>Ability to tackle a problem by using logical, systematic, sequential approach. Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternatives. Notices discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information.
