Internal Employees Only.</p> <p>Duties</p> <p>Help</p> <p>If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for directly and independently providing a wide range of legal support services to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Southern District of Illinois.</p> <p>Typical work assignments will include:</p> <ul> <li>Examining, preparing, and processing a variety of technical legal documents. </li><li>Proofreading and cite checking legal briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents. </li><li>Providing automated assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and assisting with courtroom presentations using various software applications and graphics hardware. </li><li>Assisting in the receipt, evaluation, production, and presentation of discovery. </li><li>Assembling and organizing files and records material for disposition or transfer to records depository. </li><li>Maintaining calendar of assigned active cases; Tracking filing, hearing, and trial dates, and scheduling conference and interviews. </li><li>Arranging travel by preparing itinerary and securing transportation and hotel reservations. </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Help</p> <p>Conditions of employment</p> <ul> <li>You must be a U.S. Citizen or National. </li><li>Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. </li><li>You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable. </li><li>If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period. </li><li>Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement. </li><li>You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>GS-09: To be eligible you must have: at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-7 level; or Education, or a Combination of Education and Experience.</p> <p>Specialized Experience: is defined as one full year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service:</p> <ul> <li>Performing routine litigation support assignments such as maintaining accurate and current records of electronic or physical case materials; </li><li>assisting attorneys in preparing for court and/or preparing computerized trial presentations; </li><li>using automated legal research tools as well as public information databases to perform basic research of case-specific legal matters; </li><li>preparing, drafting, or editing a variety of legal documents. </li></ul> <p>OR</p> <p>Education: one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, Law): Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Combining Education and Experience:Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.</p> <p>Education</p> <p>All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
