We are an equal opportunity employer; no information obtained during the recruitment/selection process is intended for any discriminatory purposes.</p> <p>Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule</p> <p>Grade: 106</p> <p>Salary: $10.51 Hourly (Dependent on Qualifications)</p> <p>Department: Library/Harte</p> <p>E-mail: NicoleP2@cctexas.com</p> <p>ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:Rotating 40 hour work week, Monday - Wednesday, 10:00 am - 3:30 pm, Thursday 10:00 am - 8:00 pm, Friday 10:00 am - 6:30 pm, and Saturday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.</p> <p>Who May Apply?</p> <p>All persons legally authorized to work in the United States</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Library Assistants are the frontline for library service and require delivery of excellent customer service and require strong interpersonal skills. Perform a variety of library related tasks, such as, assist patrons at the public service desk, demonstrate information literacy, process library materials, etc.</p> <ul> <li>Assists at the public service desk an average of 4 hours daily and performs cash register duties including collecting fines and making change. </li><li>Uses Koha Integrated Library System and performs a variety of tasks including; checking materials in/out, renewing, placing holds and searching for requests. </li><li>Sorts returned materials and loads carts in Dewey Decimal order for part-time aides performing a minimal amount of shelving and shelf-reading. </li><li>Provides assistance in person and over the telephone; helps patrons locate materials on shelves and assists patrons with copier, online catalog, electronic devise (Kindles, Nooks, iPads, etc.), and computers, in relation to library e-resources. </li><li>Supervises part-time aides when working as senior staff person during evenings and weekends. </li><li>Performs opening/closing procedures including preparing a bank deposit, monthly reports and reconciling library funds. </li><li>Repairs library materials and edits catalog records. </li><li>May be required to assist with weekly library programs and act as substitute for the children's librarian during his/her absence, taking turns with other library assistants. </li><li>May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Requires an Associate's degree </li><li>Minimum of one (1) year of work related experience </li><li>A combination of education and public library experience strongly preferred. </li><li>Must be able to communicate effectively, in person and over the telephone, and apply satisfactory customer service skills with individuals from diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System required. Knowledge of library resources (print and electronic) and reader's advisory is essential when assisting and instructing patrons. </li><li>Basic knowledge of cataloging principles and functions in OCLC preferred. </li><li>Ability to troubleshoot minor problems with computers, copiers, printers and other equipment common to library environment. </li><li>Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time. </li><li>Basic knowledge of software such as Microsoft Office products is essential. </li></ul> <p>Other Information:</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>The City offers an excellent benefit package that includes:</p> <ul> <li>Texas Municipal Retirement System - the City offers a 2 to 1 match.
