<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Supervises the Light Vegetation crew of skilled and semi-skilled Highway Maintenance Workers involved in paint/thermoplastic and a variety of activities to maintain and preserve State maintained roads in a county or district. Investigates work requests and schedules necessary work. Inputs work accomplishments into Highway Maintenance Management Systems (HMMS). Supervises staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels, and trains employees. Establishes and monitors work processes. Implements management policies and initiatives and promote teamwork with the organization. Operates heavy equipment like Backhoe, Excavator, Front End Loader, Lowboy, Truck Motor Grader, Slope Mower, and Tractor with Ditcher in a variety of maintenance activities. Assists with on call operations for after hour emergencies, and other emergency and inclement weather operations to include Snow and Ice Plan and Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan. Performs other related duties as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.</p> <p>Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.</p> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>Applications accepted on-line at careers.sc.gov.
